1) REALIVE– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Marc is diagnosed with a disease and is given a short time to live. Unable to accept his own end, he decides to freeze his body. Sixty years later, in the year 2084, he becomes the first cryogenically frozen man to be revived in history. Marc discovers a startling future, but the biggest surprise is that his past has accompanied him in unexpected ways.”

9/29/17- Very good reviews by the critics and weak ones by audiences. TRDB.

10/5/17- I’ll go with the audiences this time. Boring while trying to be interesting. TRDB. Netflix Disc.

2) THE DEATH AND LIFE OF MARSHA P. JOHNSON– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. ” When the beloved, self-described “street queen” of NY’s gay ghetto was found floating in the Hudson River in 1992, the NYPD chalked it up as a suicide and refused to investigate. However, as shown in Academy Award (R) nominated director and journalist David France’s (How to Survive A Plague) new film, it’s a decision many questioned.”

10/6/17- Uniformly excellent reviews. TRDB.

10/7/17- I agree with the critics– I enjoyed this documentary very much. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

3) MUCH LOVED – 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “A group of women in Morocco make a living as prostitutes in a culture that is very hostile toward women in that profession.”

10/8/17- A very poignant drama about women in the Muslim world. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

4) WALKING OUT– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Texas teen David visits his father’s off-the-grid Montana home once a year, and this time Dad decides David is ready for his first big-game hunt. But when a run-in with a grizzly bear leaves Dad injured, David is forced to take charge.”

10/6/17- Very good reviews. TRDB.

10/8/17- A very good movie if perhaps a bit too long. Great photography and very good music score as well. TRDB. Comcast On-Demand

5) THE ORNITHOLOGIST– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Searching for an elusive stork species, ornithologist Fernando is swept away by rapids while hiking along a river. Though he survives, he faces a long and perilous trek through the forest — a journey that will steadily transform him as a man.”

6/23/17- Very good reviews by the critics who said that this movie was most unusual. Audiences were not as praising. TRDB.

10/9/17- A weird movie at best. Enjoyed the first half hour until the tone abruptly changed. Great photography of the wild. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

1) LANDLINE– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “In this nostalgic portrait of New York City family life in the 1990s, Dana Jacobs is exploring her wild side before her wedding, while younger sister Ali is taking drugs, having sex and making discoveries of her own — including her father’s affair.”

7/21/17- Mixed reviews for this drama/comedy– more positive than negative. TRDB.

2) SHOT CALLER– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Recently released from prison and back on the streets of Southern California, an ex-con receives orders from his gang leaders to put together plans for committing an audacious crime with a rival gang.”

8/18/17- Fairly good reviews– somewhat better from audiences than the critics. TRDB.

 

3) LADY MACBETH– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Stifled by her arranged marriage to a middle-aged husband, young Victorian wife Katherine begins an affair with a brash groom who works on the family estate. When scandal erupts, she’s prepared to take drastic steps to continue their illicit liaison.”

7/14/17- Excellent reviews from the critics and good ones from audiences. TRDB.

4) STEP– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Focusing on three seniors — and members of the Lethal Ladies dance team — at the Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women, this documentary tracks the teens as they strive to attend college while cultivating their creative game on the step team.”

8/4/17- Excellent reviews from all. TRDB.

5) THE MIDWIFE– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “With the clinic where she works about to shut down, dedicated midwife Claire is undecided about her future when her purposeful life is upended by the sudden reappearance of her dead father’s former mistress, Béatrice — who’s seeking closure.”

7/21/17- Very good reviews from the critics and from audiences as well. TRDB.

7/29/17- I liked this French movie very much. Typical slow development of the plot with excellent acting by Catherine DeNeuve and Catherine Frot. TRDB.

1) THE FLORIDA PROJECT– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Living within sight of Disney World’s glittering attractions, the children of families residing in tacky motels near the megapark create their own magical world together, led by the spirited 6-year-old Moonee.

10/6/17- Excellent reviews by the critics and very good ones by audiences. TRDB.

2) UNA- 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. ‘At age 13, Una ran away with a man in his 30s, but their affair ended abruptly when he abandoned her and was subsequently jailed for abduction and having sex with a minor. Fifteen years later, Una — unable to move on — sets out to confront him.”

10/6/17-  Fair reviews by the critics and poor ones by audiences. TRDB.

3) THE DEATH AND LIFE OF MARSHA P. JOHNSON– 2017. 4) BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Unemployed and with his marriage failing, prizefighter Bradley Thomas’ boxing days are long behind him when he begins running drugs to make ends meet. But things go downhill fast after he lands in jail and must again resort to violence to survive.”

10/6/17- I don’t usually go for movie like this but reviews were excellent and I’ll give it a try. TRDB.

5) FACES PLACES– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “A key figure in the emergence of French New Wave cinema in the 1950s, director Agnès Varda’s career continues more than 60 years later as she joins photographer and muralist JR for a road trip through France, making art as they go.”

10/3/17- Uniformly excellent reviews. TRDB.

6) BENDING THE ARC- 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “When two doctors and an activist opened a clinic in rural Haiti in the 1980s, they soon realized that medicine alone wouldn’t heal their patients. This documentary tells the story of the organization the trio created in response: Partners in Health.”

10/6/17- Terrific reviews for this documentary. TRDB.

7) DINA– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Outspoken suburbanite Dina Buno and her fiancé, Scott Levin — a Walmart greeter — are crazy about each other. But their romance undergoes challenges as insecurities and anxieties begin bubbling to the surface after the two move in together.”

10/6/17- Uniformly excellent reviews for this documentary. TRDB.

8) PARADISE– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “In occupied France during World War II’s last days, Russian émigré Olga is arrested for concealing two Jewish children and sent to a concentration camp, where she encounters a German SS officer with whom she was once briefly involved.”

10/6/17- No reviews as yet but it does sound interesting. TRDB.

Not Recommended-

1) SO B. IT- 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “With her family’s past cloaked in mystery as a result of her mother’s autism, resolute 12-year-old Heidi DeMuth sets off on a road trip across America to find out the truth about herself and her mom.

10/6/17- Just 4 reviews for now. Three are awful and 1 is weak. TRDB.

2) THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “After bad weather halts their commercial flight, surgeon Ben Payne and writer Ashley Knox hop a charter plane. But it crashes, leaving the strangers injured and alone atop a snow-covered mountain — forcing them to embark on a long journey for help.”

10/3/17- Fair reviews at best. Even some of the positive reviews had several negative things to say. TRDB.

1) MARSHALL– Jacob Burns, Danbury. 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Recounting an early case of attorney Thurgood Marshall — who would later become the first African-American Supreme Court justice — this riveting drama depicts his defense of a black chauffeur accused of sexual assault.”

10/10/17- I’ve seen just 4 reviews– all definitely positive but none raving. TRDB.

1) SUPER DARK TIMES– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “An innocent lark in the park turns tragic when teenagers Zach and Josh are party to an accident that kills their friend Daryl. In a panic, the two hide his body under some leaves, but their hastily made decision soon begins to haunt them.”

9/29/17- Very good reviews. TRDB.

 

2) THE UNKNOWN GIRL– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “After young physician Jenny closes her office for the day, she refuses to see an unfamiliar woman who’s looking for treatment. Upon learning that the woman died soon thereafter, Jenny becomes obsessed with finding out the stranger’s identity.”

9/7/17- OK reviews from the critics and weak ones from audiences. Sounds interesting to me and the NY Times liked it very much. TRDB.

9/11/17- Certainly not a great movie, this new film did hold my interest throughout. The lead actress was very good. TRDB.

9/8/17- Awful reviews by the critics and OK ones from audiences. I’ll recommend it solely for historical value. TRDB.

1) BATTLE OF THE SEXES– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “In 1973, Billie Jean King, the world’s No. 2 female tennis player, took on 55-year-old ex-champ Bobby Riggs in a match hyped as the Battle of the Sexes. This sports dramedy delves into the battles being played out in their lives beyond the spotlight.”

9/22/17- Very good reviews by the critics and 50/50 by audiences. TRDB.

10/1/17- I liked the movie very much. It was much more than a tennis match. Love Emma Stone. TRDB.

1) A NIGHT IN OLD MEXICO– 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “After losing his longtime home to property developers, rancher Red Bovie decides to take a road trip to Mexico, accompanied by his grandson. But their adventure turns dangerous after the pair unwittingly drives off with a drug dealer’s money.”

5/16/14- Poor reviews by most critics– the NY Times liked it. TRDB.

9/27/17– Even Robert Duvall couldn’t save this movie. Skip it and save yourself 2 hours. TRDB.

2) LONG SHOT– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “When Dodgers fan Juan Catalan is wrongly accused of killing a young woman, he turns to an unlikely source to help prove he was at a baseball game with his daughter at the time of the murder: footage from the HBO comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm, whose crew was filming an episode at Dodger Stadium that day.”

9/29/17- Very interesting and another example of how persistence by someone who believes in you, in this case an attorney, is the key to success. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

3) OUR SOULS AT NIGHT– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Though widow Addie Moore and widower Louis Waters have been next-door neighbors for decades, they’ve scarcely had any contact since their spouses died. But everything changes when Addie, looking to make a connection, pays Louis a visit.”

8/2/17- A real love story between 2 characters who provided the strength for each to overcome his handicaps. TRDB.

2) PILGRIMAGE– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “When a small band of monks in 13th-century Ireland is charged with transporting their monastery’s holiest relic to Rome, they embark on a dangerous journey that brings them into conflict with warring clans, conquering Normans and one another.”

8/11/17- Mixed reviews at best with a few very good ones thrown in. I’d try it. TRDB.

9/29/177- Very good reviews from the critics and OK ones from audiences. Available on Netflix Streaming. TRDB.

9/29/17- Jane Fonda and Robert Redford were great together and the movie was enjoyable as well. TRDB.

2) LUCKY– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “This wry character study follows Lucky, a lonely 90-year-old living in a dusty desert town, as he meditates on his inevitable death. Despite his strong belief that God does not exist, Lucky isn’t ready to make the jump into nothingness.”

9/29/17- Excellent reviews. TRDB.

3) AMERICAN MADE– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “To avoid jail time for smuggling drugs into the United States from South America, pilot Barry Seal turns informant for the Drug Enforcement Administration — and soon finds himself in the midst of one of the largest covert operations in U.S. history.”

9/29/17- Very good reviews by most critics. Audiences have enjoyed it as well. TRDB.

4) ABUNDANT ACREAGE AVAILABLE– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “For siblings Tracy and Jesse, their dad’s recent death has forced them to deal with his legacy and issues related to his property. But the situation changes when three brothers whose family once owned the land arrive — and stake their claim.”

5) AUTUMN, AUTUMN– 2017. Synopsis by IMDB. “Jihyun travels to Seoul for an interview before taking a train back to his hometown of Chuncheon. On the return home, he sits next to a middle-aged couple. The film soon separates into two stories about Jihyun and the couple.”

9/29/17- Just 1 review (the NY Times) but it sounds interesting. TRDB.

6) THE UNTOLD TALES OF ARMISTEAD MAUPIN– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “This affectionate documentary traces the singular life of social diarist Armistead Maupin, whose serial novel “Tales of the City” wittily captured the spirit of San Francisco’s gay community in the 1970s while helping foster the gay rights movement.”

9/29/17- Excellent reviews for this documentary. TRDB.

7) BLOOD STRIPE– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “With her mind rattled by post-traumatic stress disorder after her third combat tour in Afghanistan, a U.S. Marine sergeant struggles to relate to family life. Seeking refuge, she flees to a summer camp, where she tries to put her life back together.”

8) DIFFERENT FLOWERS– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “In a shocking turnabout, Millie Haven gets cold feet at the altar and flees the scene for the sanctuary of her grandmother’s farmhouse. But Grandma has far less sympathy for Millie’s plight than she had expected.”

9) LET’S PLAY TWO– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “During the 2016 baseball season that saw the Chicago Cubs win their first World Series championship in 108 years, Windy City native Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam play two high-energy shows at Wrigley Field in front of a fevered crowd.”

Synopsis by Netflix. “This fact-based biopic charts the life of FBI informant Mark Felt, aka “Deep Throat” — the principal unnamed source for reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein as they begin writing exposés that will blow the lid off the Watergate scandal.”

9/29/17- Awful reviews but it might be at least somewhat interesting to people who lived through this scandal. TRDB.

2) LITERALLY, RIGHT BEFORE AARON– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “For Adam, the pain of his breakup with longtime girlfriend Allison is still raw when he learns a year later that she’s engaged. To make matters worse, he receives an invitation to the wedding — where he’s forced to confront his lingering feelings.”

2) LUCKY– Jacob Burns, Clearview 100. 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “This wry character study follows Lucky, a lonely 90-year-old living in a dusty desert town, as he meditates on his inevitable death. Despite his strong belief that God does not exist, Lucky isn’t ready to make the jump into nothingness.”

9/26/17- I saw this wonderful movie at the 2017 Arab Film Festival at Jacob Burns. Interesting and full of issues still pertinent  today. TRDB.

2) CHUCK– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Known for his ability to take punches and keep standing, boxer Chuck Wepner — nicknamed the “Bayonne Bleeder” — served as the inspiration for movie pugilist Rocky Balboa. This fast-paced biopic chronicles Wepner’s life in and out of the ring.

9/24/17- I enjoyed the movie but it contained much of the “hero worship” that documentaries of famous performers have. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

4) JERRY BEFORE SEINFELD– 2017. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Jerry Before Seinfeld: Jerry Seinfeld returns to The Comic Strip for an intimate ?stand-up ? set at the club that helped launch his career. 5) THE SQUID AND THE WHALE– 2005. Synopsis by Netflix. “This insightful indie drama looks at the crumbling marriage between a self-centered novelist — whose career is waning — and his up-and-coming writer wife. Meanwhile, the warring couple’s two sons are caught in the cross fire.”

6/23/17- Very good reviews by the critics who said that this movie was most unusual. Audiences were not as praising. TRDB.

 

4) 13 MINUTES– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “By 1939, Adolf Hitler has mesmerized most of Germany with his oratory and charisma. But carpenter Georg Elser is convinced that Hitler’s rule will lead to a devastating war and plans a daring attempt on the Nazi leader’s life.”

1) HONG KONG TRILOGY– 2017. “Reframing Hong Kong in a new light, cinematographer Christopher Doyle’s intriguing fusion of documentary and fiction gives three generations of the city’s denizens a platform to express — and dramatize — their viewpoints and concerns.”

2) WOODSHOCK– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “In this immersive thriller, a young woman reeling from the pain of a deep personal loss ingests powerful, mind-bending cannabinoids in an effort to put the past behind her. But she soon begins to spiral out of control.”

9/22/17- This movie received some of the worst reviews I’ve seen in a long time from the critics. Somehow audiences seemed to have liked it. I’ll pass. TRDB.

3) VICTORIA & ABDUL– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “In this historical drama, young Indian clerk Abdul Karim journeys to Britain to participate in the celebration of Queen Victoria’s 50th year on the throne. In the process, he unexpectedly forms a deep friendship with the monarch.”

Synopsis by Netflix. “Rachel Singer (Helen Mirren) is a former Mossad intelligence agent forced to relive her unsuccessful 1965 pursuit of a notorious Nazi war criminal when the bold and dangerous fugitive is thought to have reemerged 30 years later in the Ukraine. Director John Madden’s redo of Assaf Bernstein’s 2007 Israeli suspense piece also features Jessica Chastain as the young Rachel Singer, along with Sam Worthington, Tom Wilkinson and Ciarán Hinds.” Fairly good reviews. 3) IN THE SHADOW OF WOMEN– 2016. Synopsis by Netflix. “Despite being happily married to his creative partner, filmmaker Pierre finds himself mired in a love triangle when he falls for a young intern. 4) WAKEFIELD-  2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Lawyer, husband, dad: between his many roles, Howard Wakefield doesn’t get much “me” time. 2) LIZA, LIZA, SKIES ARE GREY– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “As tidal changes in social values sweep through America in the summer of 1966, 16-year-old Brett and his girlfriend, Liza, climb on his motorcycle for a road trip up the California coast — and are exposed to far more than they expected.”

Synopsis by Netflix. “Planning to stay just six months, Lou Clark takes on the job of looking after rich but depressed Will Traynor, who’s been left a quadriplegic by an accident. Despite Will’s disillusionment, Lou is determined to show him that his life is worth living.”6/2/16- Weak reviews from most of the critics but better received by audiences. TRDB.

8/13/17- Somewhat soapy but the movie has some good moments as well and I’d recommended it if you’re in the mood. TRDB. Amazon Prime.

2) THE DINNER (2017)- Synopsis by Netflix. “During a tense meal at an elegant restaurant, two brothers and their wives discuss how far to go in order to prevent their sons from being identified and arrested for a violent crime they committed that was caught on a security camera.”

8/15/17- If you can get by all of the zigzagging from present to past you can really enjoy the movie. Very well acted and I recommend it. TRDB. Netflix Disc.

2) THE EXCEPTION– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “This turbulent drama portrays the converging fates of Kaiser Wilhelm, exiled to Holland after Germany’s defeat in World War I, and a young Jewish woman whose presence in the Kaiser’s household raises the suspicions of an SS officer looking for spies.”

6/2/17- Most critics liked it but nobody had great things to say. Audiences were mixed. TRDB.

8/10/17- One critic called this movie a “soapy melodrama” and I have to agree. Still, it did have some good historical points and is worth seeing. TRDB. Netflix Disc.

3) 4 DAYS IN FRANCE– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Leaving his lover, Paul, without a word, restless Parisian Pierre takes off on a road trip across France. 6) THE BATTLESHIP ISLAND– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “In this historical drama based on events that occurred near the end of World War II, 400 Koreans attempt to escape from Hashima Island, where they’re being forced into mining coal by their colonial Japanese rulers.”

7) IT’S NOT YET DARK– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “This inspiring documentary charts the story of filmmaker Simon Fitzmaurice, who develops ALS syndrome at age 34 but refuses to let it deter his ambitions. Incapacitated five years later, Fitzmaurice helms a feature film using only his eye movements.”

2) MAUDIE– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “This affecting biopic charts the story of Maud Lewis, who rises above the juvenile rheumatoid arthritis that made her a social outcast and finds a passion for painting, becoming a beloved Canadian folk artist in the process.”

2) TOMMY’S HONOUR– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Links legend Tom Morris works as greenkeeper at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club in St. Andrews, Scotland — a position he expects his son to fill one day. But headstrong young Tommy has other plans, which include becoming golf’s first touring pro.”

4/14/17- Critics were mixed on this one. Audiences liked it, however. TRDB.

3) SOMM– 2012. Synopsis by Netflix. “Filmed in six countries over a two-year period, this documentary follows four sommeliers as they embark on an all-consuming course of study for the prestigious (and nearly impossible to pass) Master Sommelier exam.”

Synopsis by Netflix. “Ten years after providing the world with a wake-up call regarding climate change in “An Inconvenient Truth,” Al Gore is still at it, traveling the globe to influence policy and raise awareness about the sustainable-energy revolution under way.’

1) AN INCONVENIENT SEQUEL: TRUTH TO POWER– Jacob Burns, Danbury. 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Ten years after providing the world with a wake-up call regarding climate change in “An Inconvenient Truth,” Al Gore is still at it, traveling the globe to influence policy and raise awareness about the sustainable-energy revolution under way.’7/28/17- Fair reviews from the critics and really poor ones from audiences. I will see this eventually. TRDB.

2) MENASHE- Jacob Burns. 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “When Menashe’s wife dies, tradition in his Hasidic Jewish community dictates that he must not raise his young son alone. Instead, he’s obligated to give the boy up to an uncle for adoption — a custom Menashe is unwilling to accept.”7/28/17- Excellent reviews for this drama. TRDB.

3) DETROIT- Bethel, Danbury. 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “This historical drama is set during the citizen unrest that occurred in 1967 Detroit, when the deaths of three black men inflamed the residents and led to 40 additional fatalities, along with the destruction or looting of 2,500 buildings.”

Synopsis by Netflix. “In the 1960s, when urban renewal became synonymous with the destruction of historic neighborhoods, Jane Jacobs battled some of New York’s most powerful people to save places like Greenwich Village and Little Italy.”4/21/17- Very good reviews for this documentary. Synopsis by Netflix. “Famously reclusive poet Emily Dickinson comes to life in this lush biopic that follows her from her days as a gifted but insecure student through her years as an introverted adult whose attachment to her family leads to self-imposed sequestration.”4/14/17– Excellent reviews by the critics but only mediocre one from audiences. 7/21/17- I agree with the audiences on this one. I just couldn’t get into the movie. TRDB.

2) REALITY- 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “While working as a cameraman on an execrable cooking show, Jason pursues investors for a horror film he’s dying to direct. He finds a producer willing to fund the movie but with one proviso: Jason must first come up with the perfect cinematic groan.”

5/12/17- I liked this movie very much. The acting was excellent and the story interesting. The movie led to lots of discussion. TRDB.

2) AMNESIA– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “After arriving on the island of Ibiza hoping to land a DJ gig at a popular dance club, young German Jo meets an enigmatic older woman named Martha — who conceals her German nationality for reasons involving their country’s past.”

2) THE GIRL WITHOUT HANDS– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Based on a Brothers Grimm fairy tale, this animated fable focuses on a girl sold to the devil by her starving father. When her soul proves too virtuous for Satan to possess, he commands her dad to chop off her hands.”

3) MISTER UNIVERSO– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “When lion tamer Tairo loses his lucky charm, superstition keeps him from performing his traveling circus act. 1) GIRLS TRIP- 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “When four lifelong girlfriends journey to New Orleans to attend the Essence Festival — the largest event celebrating African-American culture and music in the United States — the women teach the Big Easy a thing or two about partying.”7/21/17- I have NO intention of seeing this movie but it did get some very good reviews. TRDB.

2) THE UNTAMED– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “In this genre-bending parable, unhappily married Alejandra and Angel find their parochial lives upended by an otherworldly creature that provides rapturous erotic pleasure — but is also a source of great danger.”

7/21/17- Good reviews from the critics and awful ones by audiences for this sci-fi, horror movie. I’ll skip it!!

3) THE PULITZER AT 100– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Released during the 100th year of the Pulitzer prize, this absorbing documentary looks at the history of the awards, providing profiles of and interviews with a number of the winners and readings of their works by famous actors.”

4) THE BLACK PRINCE– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Proclaimed the Maharaja of Punjab at age 5, Duleep Singh was dethroned by the time he was 10 and exiled to England as a teen, where he became a Christian. This historical drama charts Singh’s long struggle to return to his nation and his Sikh faith.”
