TAKE THIS WALTZ- 2012. Synopsis by Netflix. “Filmed in Toronto, this intimate, unflashy romantic drama portrays a happily married woman who experiences a sudden and strong desire for another man. Further complicating the situation, the object of her desire resides just across the street.”

7/2/12- Great acting by Michelle Williams and if you can suspend a bit of reality I think you can enjoy this fim. I did. Comcast On-Demand.

2/17/12- Weak review in today’s NY Times and in general. Audiences seem to like it so far. TRDB.

Synopsis by Netflix. “In this romantic tale of second glances, war-weary soldier Casper is on a brief leave when he bumps into childhood friend Rebecca at a packed party, and the pair set off on a Minneapolis night crawl that sends them through their own bittersweet past.”

11/4/11- Very good review in today’s NY Times. TRDB.

3/15/12- Good story, good acting and I liked it. TRDB. Netflix.

FOOTLOOSE- 2011. Synopsis by Netflix. “This musical remake of the infectious 1984 hit finds dance-lovin’, big-city kid Ren MacCormack stuck in a small town where dancing is illegal. As he rebels against the town and its influential Rev. Moore, Ren falls for the pastor’s lovely daughter.” Mixed early reviews. TRDB.

10/14/11- Poor review in today’s NY Times and even some of the positive reviews I read were qualified. I don’t plan to see it. TRDB.

SUMMERTIME- 1955. Synopsis by Netflix. “Dreams of romance for American spinster Jane Hudson (Katharine Hepburn) become a bittersweet reality when she meets a handsome but married antiques dealer (Rossano Brazzi) while vacationing in Venice, Italy. David Lean directed this sensitive portrait of an independent woman who finds that, even in a beautiful European city, her sense of loneliness is unavoidable, and her initial disgust with the idea of an illicit love affair doesn’t last.”

7/25/11- Classic Hepburn and classic Venice make this movie wonderful. TRDB. Netflix.

GIRLFRIEND

GIRLFRIEND- 2010. Synopsis by Netflix. “Evan (Evan Sneider), a genial young man with Down syndrome, lives with his adoring mother, Celeste (Amanda Plummer), but is self-sufficient, holding a job and longing for a real relationship with the object of his high school crush: a single mother named Candy (Shannon Woodward). When he suddenly comes into some money, Evan begins to support Candy, who is still entangled with her abusive ex, Russ (Jackson Rathbone), as well as a married lover.” OK review in NY Times on 7/15/11 but awful reviews in general. TRDB.

9/14/12- Despite a creative beginning to this film it became formulaic and lost momentum. Still OK. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

A LITTLE HELP- 2010. Synopsis by Netflix. “King of Queens” creator Michael J. Weithorn makes his feature-film directorial debut with this indie dramatic comedy starring Jenna Fischer (“The Office”) as a recently widowed single mom. Looking for solace anywhere she can find it, Laura (Fischer) reconnects with an old beau — perhaps not the wisest of choices, since he’s also her sister’s spouse. Chris O’Donnell and Lesley Ann Warren co-star.” Good audience reaction so far but no professional reviews as yet. TRDB.

THE LOVER

THE LOVER- 1992. Adapted from the book by Marguerite Duras and starring Tony Leung and Jane March. Synopsis by Netflix. “Set in French Colonial Vietnam in 1929, this Oscar-nominated film explores the erotic charge of forbidden love. A 15-year-old French girl is sent to a Saigon boarding school, where she meets a 32-year-old Chinese aristocrat. Love at first sight leads to a liaison where the lovers revel in a variety of sexual encounters. They both realize that their love is doomed, however, as neither of their families will approve of the interracial coupling.”

6/6/11- I saw this film years ago and liked it very much, saw it once again and I still do. TRDB. Netflix.
