MOVIES I SAW DURING THE LAST WEEK-
1) YANIV– “A high school teacher in the Bronx (Ben Ducoff) loses funding for the school musical and convinces his fellow statistics teacher–secretly a recovering gambling addict–to help him cheat at an underground card game run by the Hasidic Jewish community. The plan goes awry with mounting consequences, but help comes at an unexpected time from the least likely people.”
4/8/25- No reviews as yet but I saw this movie and it was just OK
2) SMALL THINGS LIKE THESE–Small Things Like These takes place over Christmas in 1985, when devoted father and coal merchant Bill Furlong (Cillian Murphy) discovers startling secrets kept by the convent in his town, along with some shocking truths of his own. The film reveals truths about Ireland’s Magdalene laundries — horrific asylums run by Roman Catholic institutions from the 1820s until 1996, ostensibly to reform “fallen young women.” Adapted from the Booker Prize nominated novel by Claire Keegan. .
