FILM REVIEWS #1026

November 3rd, 2024

OCTOBER 25, 2024-
DEAR FRIENDS:
MOVIES I SAW THIS WEEK-
1) MUSIC OF THE HEART– 1999. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “After being abandoned by her husband, depressed music teacher Roberta (Meryl Streep) lands a job teaching violin to underprivileged children in Harlem, New York. Despite initial friction from school principal Janet Williams (Angela Bassett) and the students, the program succeeds and attracts public recognition. After 10 years, however, the program is suddenly shut down following budget cuts — and Roberta, together with Williams and her former pupils, works to hold a fund-raising concert.”

10/23/24- Weak reviews at best but as far as “FEEL GOOD” is concerned I liked it.

3) HIGH TIDE– 2024. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Heartbroken and adrift, undocumented Brazilian immigrant Lourenço searches for purpose in the queer mecca of Provincetown. As the summer season comes to a fade, he sparks an intense and unexpected romance with Maurice. Together, the two reconcile the pasts they’ve left behind and their uncertain futures.”

Thrust into the world of modern parenthood, Goodrich leans on his daughter from his first marriage, Grace (Mila Kunis), as he ultimately evolves into the father Grace never had.”

10/23/24- Fair to good reviews. TRDB.

5) ANORA– 2024. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or winner ANORA is an audacious, thrilling, and comedic variation on a modern day Cinderella story. Mikey Madison (ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD) captivates as Ani, a young sex worker from Brooklyn whose life takes an unexpected turn when she meets and impulsively marries Vanya, the impetuous son of a Russian billionaire. However, when Vanya’s parents catch wind of the union, they send their henchmen to annul the marriage, setting off a wild chase through the streets of New York.”
