JANUARY 11, 2024-
DEAR FRIENDS:
QUICK LOOK AT MY FAVORITES OF THE WEEK-
1) FAREWELL, MR. HAFFMANN
2) ONE FINE MORNING
_____________________________________________________________________
MOVIES I SAW THIS WEEK-
1) FAREWELL, MR. HAFFMANN– 2023- Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Occupied Paris, 1941: all members of the Jewish community are instructed to come forward and identify themselves to authorities. Dedicated jeweler Joseph Haffmann (Auteuil), fearing the worst, arranges for his family to flee the city and offers his employee François Mercier (Gilles Lellouche) the chance to take over his store until the conflict subsides.”

12/21/23- Excellent reviews for this movie and I liked it very much.  TRDB.

2) ONE FINE MORNING– 2022. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Sandra, a young mother who raises her daughter alone, pays regular visits to her sick father. While she and her family fight tooth and nail to get him the care he requires, Sandra reconnects with Clément, a friend she hasn’t seen in a while. Although he is in a relationship, the two begin a passionate affair.”

12/11/22- Very good reviews for this French drama and I liked it very much. TRDB.

NEW MOVIES IN THEATERS AND/OR STREAMING-

1) MEMORY- 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Sylvia (Jessica Chastain) is a social worker who leads a simple and structured life: her daughter, her job, her AA meetings. This is blown open when Saul (Peter Sarsgaard) follows her home from their high school reunion. Their surprise encounter will profoundly impact both of them as they open the door to the past.”

1/8/24- Excellent reviews by the critics and fair to good ones from audiences. TRDB.

2) HE WENT THAT WAY– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Set in 1964, He Went That Way is a taut thriller based on a true crime story that puts a wicked spin on the buddy road trip film.”

1/8/23- Terrible reviews by the critics and just OK reviews from audiences. TRDB.

3) SOCIETY OF THE SNOW- 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “In 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which had been chartered to fly a rugby team to Chile, crashed in the heart of the Andes. Only 29 of its 45 passengers survived the accident. Trapped in one of the most hostile and inaccessible environments on the planet, they have to resort to extreme measures to stay alive.”

1/10/24-  Very good reviews by the critics and good ones from audiences. TRDB.

4) GOOD GRIEF– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Marc (Daniel Levy) was content living in the shadow of his larger-than-life husband, Oliver (Luke Evans). But when Oliver unexpectedly dies, Marc’s world shatters, sending him and his two best friends, Sophie (Ruth Negga) and Thomas (Himesh Patel), on a soul-searching trip to Paris that reveals some hard truths they each needed to face.”

1/110/24. Fair reviews by the critics and by audiences as well. TRDB
