UMBERTO ECO- A LIBRARY OF THE WORLD– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Umberto Eco’s private library was a world in itself: more than 30,000 contemporary books and 1,500 rare and antique volumes. The director had worked with Eco one year before the writer’s death on a video project for the Venice Art Biennale in 2015, gaining access to the library.”
7/1/23- Excellent reviews for this Italian documentary. TRDB.

THE PASSENGERS OF THE NIGHT– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “On election night in 1981, celebrations spill out onto the street and there is an air of hope and change throughout Paris. But for Elisabeth, her marriage is coming to an end and she will now have to support herself and her two teenage children.”

EVERY BODY– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “EVERY BODY is a revelatory investigation of the lives of intersex people. The film tells the stories of three individuals who have moved from childhoods marked by shame, secrecy, and non-consensual surgeries to thriving adulthoods after each decided to set aside medical advice to keep their bodies a secret and instead came out as their authentic selves.”

MILLIE LIES LOW– 2021. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Millie, an architecture student from Wellington, New Zealand, has landed a competitive internship with a prestigious firm in New York. After telling everyone she knows about the opportunity, she suddenly suffers a panic attack as her plane is about to take off, and misses her flight.”

AS FAR AS I CAN WALK– 2021. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Siisi, nicknamed Strahinja, a 22-year-old Ghanaian refugee, is doing everything to integrate in Serbia. He volunteers for the Red Cross in the camp where he lives, looks for work, plays on the local football team… His biggest challenge, however, is to win back the woman he loves.”

IN THE COMPANY OF ROSE- 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Tony-winning playwright and director James Lapine (Into the Woods, Sunday in the Park with George) befriends Rose Styron, the widow of the great American novelist William Styron (Sophie’s Choice). Rose shares the fascinating story of her complex life as a poet, journalist, human rights activist, life partner to William, and friend of the Kennedys, Phillip Roth, Carly Simon, the Clintons, James Baldwin, Leonard Bernstein, Meryl Streep, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and many other luminaries of her time.”

With no love lost toward Max but financially strapped and working multiple jobs to raise her only son, Ezra (Christopher Convery), she begrudgingly agrees to the conditions.”

The woman they choose is Nasim, an Iranian-Canadian divorcée who is running from an oppressive past and yearning to have fun for the first time in her life.”
