MOVIES I SAW THIS WEEK-
1) REGGIE– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “One of sport’s first and most influential megastars, beloved baseball icon and 5-time World Series champion Reggie Jackson contemplates his legacy as a trailblazing Black athlete fighting for dignity, respect, and a seat at the table in this intimate and revealing new documentary exploring his life and barrier-busting career.”

3/25/23- Excellent reviews for this documentary and I liked it very much. TRDB.

1) TORI AND LOKITA– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “A friendship develops between two young people after they are exiled in Belgium.”

3/25/2023- Very good reviews for this French drama. TRDB.

2) THE WORST ONES– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “A film shooting will take place at the cité Picasso, in the suburbs of Boulogne-Sur-Mer, in the north of France. During the casting, four teenagers, Lily, Ryan, Maylis and Jessy are chosen to play in the film. Everyone in the neighborhood is surprised: why only take the “worst ones”?

4) NAM JUNE PAIK– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “A chronicle of the life and times of Nam June Paik, a pillar of the American avant-garde in the 20th century, widely regarded as the father of video art, who coined the phrase “Electronic Superhighway,” and is arguably the most famous Korean artist in modern history.”

5) WALK UP– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “A middle-aged film director, together with his daughter whom he has not seen in years, visits a building owned by an interior designer. They have come because the daughter also hopes to study interior design. The designer owns the 4-story walk-up building, and she takes them up floor by floor to show them the renovations she has done.”

3/26/23- This Korean drama sounds boring to me but it received excellent reviews. TRDB.

6) THE LOST KING– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “In this inspiring true story, amateur historian Philippa Langley believes she has made the archeological find of the century: the lost burial site of King Richard III. She takes on Britain’s most eminent historians, forcing them to rethink the legacy of one of the most controversial rulers in English history.”

7) THE FIVE DEVILS– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Eight-year-old Vicky has a mysterious gift: she can recreate any scent she comes across, even that of her beloved mother Joanne. When her estranged aunt suddenly returns to town, the invocation of her fragrance plunges the young girl back in time to unravel a past replete with family secrets and queer romance.”

8) A GOOD PERSON– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Daniel (Morgan Freeman) is brought together with Allison (Florence Pugh), the once thriving young woman with a bright future who was involved in an unimaginable tragedy that took his daughter’s life. As grief-stricken Daniel navigates raising his teenage granddaughter and Allison seeks redemption, they discover that friendship, forgiveness, and hope can flourish in unlikely places.”

9) ITHAKA– 2023.
