MOVIES I SAW THIS WEEK-
1) 80 FOR BRADY– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “80 FOR BRADY is inspired by the true story of four best friends living life to the fullest when they take a wild trip to the 2017 Super Bowl LI to see their hero Tom Brady play.”
2/4/23- Weak reviews from the critics and good ones from audiences. OK- if you can suspend reality for 2 hours. This movie was actually fun. TRDB.
2) TO LESLIE– 2022. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Leslie (Andrea Riseborough) is a West Texas single mother struggling to provide for her son (Owen Teague) when she wins the lottery and a chance at a good life. But a few short years later the money is gone and Leslie is on her own, living hard and fast at the bottom of a bottle as she runs from the world of heartbreak she left behind.”
10/8/22- Excellent reviews by the critics and weak ones from audiences. I liked it very much especially the performance by Andrea Riseborough who has received much attention for her role in this film. TRDB.

NEW MOVIES IN THEATERS AND/OR STREAMING-
1)
FULL TIME– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Single mother Julie (César award-winning actress Laure Calamy) works a grueling job as a head chambermaid in a five-star Parisian hotel. Julie’s daily balance of commuting from her remote suburb into Paris, tenuous childcare and search for a new job to get her out of debt, becomes unmanageable during a paralyzing transport strike in Paris.”
2/4/23- Excellent reviews by all for this French drama. TRDB.
2)
GODLAND- 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “In the late 19th century, a young Danish priest travels to a remote part of Iceland to build a church and photograph its people. But the deeper he goes into the unforgiving landscape, the more he strays from his purpose, the mission and morality.”
2/4/23- Excellent reviews for this Danish drama. TRDB.
3)
THE BLIND MAN WHO DID NOT WANT TO SEE TITANIC– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Internationally acclaimed at Venice, Berlin, SXSW and beyond, writer-director Teemu Nikki’s darkly humorous Finnish romance becomes a cinematically unusual action-thriller, empathetically shot from the shallow-focus perspective of a character (and real-life actor) who is blind and unable to walk. The brightest moments in movie lover Jaakko’s day are shared on the phone with Sirpa, the woman he loves even though they’ve never met in person. When Sirpa gets difficult news, Jaako decides he must go to her immediately.”
2/4/23- Excellent reviews. TRDB.
4)
LET IT BE MORNING– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “LET IT BE MORNING is the story of Sami (Alex Bakri) a Palestinian-born Israeli citizen living in Jerusalem who receives an invitation to his brother’s wedding forcing him to return to the Arab village where he grew up. After the wedding finishes, with no explanation, Sami’s hometown is put under a military blockade lockdown by Israeli soldiers. When chaos erupts overnight amongst the villagers stuck behind the wall due to the blockade, Sami is cut off from the outside world and trapped in an unexpected situation. As he deals with questions about his own identity and hidden secrets are revealed.”
2/4/23- Excellent reviews for this Arabic comedy/drama. TRDB.
5) DIONNE WARWICK: DON’T MAKE ME OVER– 2022. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “DON’T MAKE ME OVER reveals the intimate stories behind a pioneering artist who took charge of her own career and smashed through cultural, racial and gender barriers to become the soundtrack for generations.”
2/4/23-Excellent reviews for this documentary. TRDB.
6) LOVE IN THE TIME OF FENTANYL– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “As deaths in Vancouver, Canada reach an all-time high, the Overdose Prevention Society opens its doors—a renegade supervised drug consumption site that employs active and former drug users. Its staff and volunteers do whatever it takes to save lives and give hope to a marginalized community in this intimate documentary that looks beyond the stigma of people who use fentanyl and other drugs.”
2/4/23- Just 2 reviews noted and they are both excellent. TRDB.
7) TRUE SPIRIT- 2022. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “When Jessica Watson sets out to be the youngest person to sail solo, non-stop and unassisted around the world, she must overcome her greatest fear as she navigates the world’s most challenging stretches of ocean. Based on a true story.”
2/4/23- Fair to good reviews. TRDB. Netflix
8)
A LOT OF NOTHING– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “James (Y’lan Noel) and Vanessa (Cleopatra Coleman) seem to be the perfect couple — happily married, successful, and comfortable. One night, their lives are rocked to the core when, after watching a tragedy play out on the evening news, they realize their neighbor (Justin Hartley) was involved. In a state of shock, and with opposing viewpoints on how to address the issue, they embark on a highly combustible journey to ‘do something’ about it.”
2/4/23- Poor reviews in general with a few very good ones. TRDB.
9)
80 FOR BRADY– 2023.
OK- if you can suspend reality for 2 hours this movie was actually fun. TRDB.
10)
PAMELA: A LOVE STORY– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “An intimate and humanizing portrait of one of the world’s most famous blonde bombshells, Pamela, a love story follows the trajectory of Pamela Anderson’s life and career from small town girl to international sex symbol, actress, activist and doting mother.”
2/4/23- Excellent reviews for this documentary. TRDB. Netflix
