December 17th, 2022

DECEMBER 16, 2022-
DEAR FRIENDS:
QUICK LOOK AT MY FAVORITES OF THE WEEK-
1) SIMPLE AS WATER– Amazon Prime
2) LADY CHATTERLY’S LOVER– Netflix
_____________________________________________________________________
MOVIES I SAW LAST WEEK-
1) SIMPLE AS WATER– 2021. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Epic in scope but intimate and elegant in feel, SIMPLE AS WATER is a meditation on the elemental bonds between parent and child. A masterful look at the impact of war, separation and displacement, the film takes audiences into Syrian families’ quests for normalcy and through the whirlwind of obstacles — to building life anew. Filmed over the course of five years in five countries including Turkey, Greece, Germany, Syria and the US, Mylan’s sensitive camera reifies the universal importance of family.”

12/12/21- Excellent reviews by all of the critics. TRDB.

2) LADY CHATTERERLY’S LOVER– 2022. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Marrying Sir Clifford Chatterley, Connie’s life of wealth and privilege seems set as she takes the title of Lady Chatterley. Yet this idealistic union gradually becomes an incarceration when Clifford returns from the First World War with injuries that have left him unable to walk. When she meets and falls for Oliver Mellors, the gamekeeper on the Chatterley family estate, their secret trysts lead her to a sensual, sexual awakening. But as their affair becomes the subject of local gossip, Connie faces a life-altering decision: follow her heart or return to her husband and endure what Edwardian society expects of her.”

12/15/22- Good reviews- better from the critics than from audiences. TRDB.

NEW MOVIES IN THEATERS AND/OR STREAMING-
1) ONE FINE MORNING– 2022. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Sandra, a young mother who raises her daughter alone, pays regular visits to her sick father. While she and her family fight tooth and nail to get him the care he requires, Sandra reconnects with Clément, a friend she hasn’t seen in a while. Although he is in a relationship, the two begin a passionate affair.”

12/111/22- Very good reviews for this French drama. TRDB. Sony Pictures

2) THE TREASURE OF HIS YOUTH: THE PHOTOGRAPHS OF PAOLO DI PAOLO
3) THE WHALE– 2022. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “A reclusive English teacher suffering from severe obesity attempts to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter for one last chance at redemption.”

12/11/22- Poor reviews from the critics and very good ones from audiences. TRDB.

4) BLANQUITA– 2022. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Blanca, an 18-year-old foster home resident, is the key witness in a scandal involving kids, politicians and rich men taking part in sex parties. Yet, the more questions are asked, the less clear it becomes what Blanca’s role in the scandal exactly is.”

12/12/22- Excellent reviews for this Spanish drama. TRDB.

5) SOMETHING FROM TIFFANY’S– 2022. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Nothing compares to the magic and excitement of the holidays in New York City, where the streets blaze with lights, windows dazzle and a special box from Tiffany could change the course of a person’s life. Or several lives. Rachel and Gary (Zoey Deutch, Ray Nicholson) are happy enough but not quite ready for that big commitment. Ethan and Vanessa (Kendrick Smith Sampson, Shay Mitchell), the perfect picture, are just about to make it official. A simple mix-up of gifts causes all of their paths to cross.”

12/13/2022- Fair reviews at best. TRDB.

6) TO THE END– 2022. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Filmed over four years of hope and crisis, TO THE END captures the emergence of a new generation of leaders and the movement behind the most sweeping climate change legislation in U.S. history.”

12/13/22- Fair to good reviews. TRDB.
