NEW MOVIES IN THEATERS AND/OR STREAMING-
1) HOLD ME TIGHT– 2021. Synopsis by RT. “In Hold Me Tight, Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread, Bergman Island) gives another riveting performance as Clarisse, a woman on the run from her family for reasons that aren’t immediately clear.”

9/12/22- Mostly fair to good reviews for this French drama. TRDB.

2) TRUE THINGS– 2022. Synopsis by RT. “Bored by the daily tedium of her office job, Kate (Ruth Wilson) is sleepwalking through life when a chance sexual encounter with a charismatic stranger (Tom Burke) awakens her. High on infatuation and the exhilaration of this new relationship, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to this mysterious new man.”

9/12/22- Good reviews by the critics and terrible ones from audiences. TRDB. On Prime

3) THE BENGALI- 2022. Synopsis by RT. “An unlikely quest takes an African-American woman from New Orleans across deep divides of culture to India, in search of her family’s past. Her journey sparks a boldly different encounter between East and West.”

9/12/22- Fair early reviews for this documentary. TRDB.

4) THE ANTHRAX ATTACKS– 2022. Synopsis by RT. “The Anthrax Attacks tells the story of the 2001 anthrax attacks on the United States and one of the largest and most complex FBI investigations in the history of law enforcement.”

9/12/22- OK early reviews by the critics and weak reviews by audiences. TRDB.

5) THIS LAND– 2022. Synopsis by RT. “On November 3, 2020, the most monumental presidential election in modern memory was held in the United States. Four years filled with partisan politics, constant news coverage, and a global pandemic led, finally, to a day that will go down in history.”

9/12/22- Fair to good early reviews. TRDB.

9) A KADISH FOR BERNIE MADOFF-
9/12/22-I have no info on this movie as yet but it could be interesting.
10) WE ARE AS GODS– 2022. Synopsis by RT. “WE ARE AS GODS offers a deep dive into the many sides of Stewart Brand–the Zelig-like creator of The Whole Earth Catalog, an influential member of Ken Kesey’s “The Merry Pranksters,” and an early activist in the modern environmental movement.”

9/12/22- Excellent reviews all around for this documentary. TRDB.

MOVIES PLAYING AT THE JACOB BURNS FILM CENTER IN PLEASANTVILLE, NY
1) GOD’S COUNTRY– 2022. Synopsis by RT. “When a college professor in the remote mountains of the American West confronts two hunters she catches trespassing on her property, she’s drawn into an escalating battle of wills with catastrophic consequences. Based on the short story “Winter Light” by James Lee Burke.”

9/14/22- Very good reviews for this drama. TRDB.

2) THREE THOUSAND YEARS OF LONGING– 2022. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes (RT)- “Dr. Alithea Binnie (Tilda Swinton) is an academic — content with life and a creature of reason. While in Istanbul attending a conference, she happens to encounter a Djinn (Idris Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom.”

8/25/22- Fair reviews at best. TRDB. 

3) THE SILENT TWINS– 2022. Synopsis by RT. “THE SILENT TWINS is the astounding true story of twin sisters who only communicated with one another. As a result, they created a rich, fascinating world to escape the reality of their own lives. Based on the best-selling book The Silent Twins, the film stars Letitia Wright and Tamara Lawrance.”

9/14/22- Mixed reviews– some very good and some not so good. TRDB.

4) SEE HOW THEY RUN- 2022. Synopsis by RT. “Plans for a movie version of a smash-hit play come to an abrupt halt after a pivotal member of the crew is murdered. When world-weary Inspector Stoppard (Sam Rockwell) and eager rookie Constable Stalker (Saoirse Ronan) take on the case, the two find themselves thrown into a puzzling whodunit.”

9/7/22- Mixed reviews- more up than down. TRDB.
