NEW MOVIES IN THEATERS AND/OR STREAMING-
1) ART OF LOVE– 2022. Synopsis by RT. “A professor at a top university in Puerto Rico falls in love with an aspiring artist from the immigrant Chinese community.”

7/23/22- Just 3 reviews and they are all poor. TRDB.

2) ANYTHING’S POSSIBLE– 2022. Synopsis by RT. “Anything’s Possible is a delightfully modern Gen Z coming-of-age story that follows Kelsa, a confident high school girl who is trans, as she navigates through senior year.”

7/23/22- Good early reviews. TRDB.

3) THE REVEREND– 2022. Synopsis by RT. “THE REVEREND follows the spiritual and musical journey of Reverend Vince Anderson. After coming to New York in the 90’s to enter the seminary, Vince dropped out to follow his second calling — music. With his band The Love Choir, he has played a now-legendary weekly show for over twenty years.”

7/23/22- Just one review so far for this documentary and it is very good. TRDB.

4) SKIES OF LEBANON–  2022. Synopsis by RT. “A poetic blending of the personal and political, Skies of Lebanon combines live action with animation to create a vivid picture of Lebanon, inspired by the family history of filmmaker Chloe? Mazlo. Using stories told to her by her grandmother of life during the Lebanese Civil War, Mazlo crafts a touching and heart-breaking story of love during wartime.”

5) MY OLD SCHOOL– 2022. Synopsis by RT. “In 1993, 16-year-old Brandon Lee enrolled at Bearsden Academy, a secondary school in a well-to-do suburb of Glasgow, Scotland. What followed over the next two years would become the stuff of legend. Brandon had been privately tutored in Canada while he accompanied his mother, an opera diva, on tour before her tragic death. The preternaturally bright student surprised teachers by blazing toward his goal of entering medical school.”

6) MY DONKEY, MY LOVER & I- 2022. Synopsis by RT. “Antoinette, a schoolteacher, is looking forward to her long planned summer holiday with her married lover Vladimir, the father of one of her pupils. When she learns that Vladimir has to cancel because his wife organized a surprise hiking vacation, Antoinette decides to follow their tracks, accompanied by a protective donkey named Patrick.”

NEW MOVIES OPENING ON 7/28/22-

1) HONOR SOCIETYHONOR SOCIETY follows Honor (Angourie Rice), an ambitious high school senior whose sole focus is getting into Harvard, assuming she can first score the coveted recommendation from her guidance counselor.

8/1/22- Fair to good reviews for this comedy.

2) BLUE ISLAND– 2022. Synopsis by RT. “With courage and sensitivity, Blue Island confronts the large-scale protests in Hong Kong. A new wave of young people took back the streets, as one generation after another has done throughout Hong Kong’s history. Bullets fly. Fires ignite. White tear gas and blue water cannons encroach on public spaces. The past, the present, and the future converge.”

8/1/22- Good reviews for this Chinese documentary. TRDB.

3) A LOVE SONG– 2022. Synopsis by RT. “Faye (Dale Dickey) is a lone traveler biding her time fishing, birding and stargazing at a rural Colorado campground as she awaits the arrival of Lito (Wes Studi), a figure from her past who is navigating his own tentative and nomadic journey across the rugged West.”

8/1/22- Very good reviews from the critics and less so from audiences. TRDB.

4) ALI & AVA 2022. Synopsis by RT. “Both lonely for different reasons, ALI and AVA meet through their shared affection for SOFIA (6), the child of ALI’s Slovakian tenants, whom AVA teaches. ALI finds comfort in AVA’s warmth and kindness and AVA finds ALI’s complexity and humor irresistible. Over a lunar month, sparks fly and a deep connection begins to grow.”

SKIP THESE-

1) Not Okay follows Danni Sanders (Zoey Deutch), an aimless aspiring writer with no friends, no romantic prospects and — worst of all — no followers, who fakes an Instagram-friendly trip to Paris in the hopes of boosting her social media clout.

Poor reviews.
