MOVIES I SAW THIS WEEK-
1) THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD– 2022. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “The Worst Person in the World is a modern dramedy about the quest for love and meaning in contemporary Oslo. It chronicles four years in the life of Julie (Renate Reinsve), a young woman who navigates the troubled waters of her love life and struggles to find her career path, leading her to take a realistic look at who she really is.”

2/23/22- Excellent reviews by all. I saw this movie and liked it. TRDB.

2) THE DUKE– 2020. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “In 1961, Kempton Bunton, a 60-year old taxi driver, stole Goya’s portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London. It was the first (and remains the only) theft in the Gallery’s history.”

5/3/22- Very good reviews. TRDB

6/28/22- I enjoyed this movie based on a true story. TRDB.

3) JULIA– 2021. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “JULIA tells the story of the legendary cookbook author and television superstar who changed the way Americans think about food, television, and even about women. Using never-before-seen archival footage, personal photos, first-person narratives, and cutting-edge, mouth-watering food cinematography, the film traces Julia Child’s surprising path, from her struggles to create and publish the revolutionary Mastering the Art of French Cooking (1961) which has sold more than 2.5 million copies to date, to her empowering story of a woman who found fame in her 50s, and her calling as an unlikely television sensation.”

1) TOP GUN: MAVERICK– 2022. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him.”

5/28/22- Great reviews from all and I’ll try to see this one. TRDB. In Theaters.

2) LOOK AT ME– 2022. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Look At Me: XXXTENTACION explores how Florida teenager Jahseh Onfroy became SoundCloud rapper XXXTENTACION, one of the most streamed artists on the planet.”

3) A CHIARA- 2022. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “The Guerrasio family and friends gather to celebrate Claudio and Carmela’s oldest daughter’s 18th birthday. There is a healthy rivalry between the birthday girl and her 15-year-old sister Chiara as they compete on the dancefloor. It is a happy occasion, and the close-knit family are on top form. However, everything changes the next day when the father disappears.”

4) THE TSUGUA DIARIES– 2022. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Crista, Carloto and João are building an airy greenhouse for butterflies in the garden. The three of them share household routines, day after day… and they are not the only ones.”

5/29/22- Fair to good reviews. TRDB.  In Theaters

5) FANNY: THE RIGHT TO ROCK– 2022. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Sometime in the 1960s, in sunny Sacramento, two Filipina-American sisters got together to play music. Little did they know their garage rock band would evolve into the legendary Fanny, the first all-woman band to release an LP with a major record label.”

6) SINCE I BEEN DOWN– 2021. Synopsis by RT. “In 1993, Washington State voters passed the three-strikes law and sent children considered irredeemable super-predators to prison for life without parole. Influenced by the national drug war frenzy, escalating crime, and gang activity, during the fear-based political policies of the 1980’s and ’90’s, Tacoma, Washington sacrificed their most vulnerable children.”
