MOVIES I SAW THIS WEEK-
1) WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME TOMORROW?- 2013. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “In this madcap and lighthearted comedic romp, introverted optometrist Weichung begins to question his marriage with his wife Feng, upon learning of her desire to have another baby. At his sister’s engagement party, Weichung bumps into an old friend, Stephen, a wedding photographer who, though also married, is living the high life of a younger, single gay man. When Stephen teases Weichung for his newly straight-laced lifestyle, dormant emotions are awakened in Weichung, setting him off on a quest for true romance and desire.”

9/13/13- This movie showed at the Martha’s Vineyard Int. Film Festival and has received some good early reviews. TRDB.

1/17/14- An OK review in today’s NY Times- mixed reviews from others. TRDB.

1) NOMADLAND– 2021. Synopsis by Netflix. “When her rural Nevada company town goes belly up, Fern packs up her van and starts driving. Becoming a modern-day nomad, she finds work and adventure along the way as she travels across the West.”

2/16/21- Excellent reviews by the critics and fair ones from audiences. TRDB.

4/28/21- I just saw this Academy award winning movie. I enjoyed the movie especially the second half. The first half seemed more like a documentary about the lifestyle. TRDB. Releases on 5/11 on Netflix.

1) BEST SUMMER EVER– 2021. Synopsis by Netflix. “For teens Sage and Tony, the end of summer dance camp brings an end to their romance. But when they find themselves attending the same high school in the fall, they have a chance to rekindle their love — until they learn it was built on fiction.”

4/29/21- Reviews are either excellent or very good. TRDB.

2) LIMBO– 2020. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “LIMBO is a wry and poignant observation of the refugee experience, set on a fictional remote Scottish island where a group of new arrivals await the results of their asylum claims.”

5/3/21- Excellent reviews by the critics and just fair ones by audiences. TRDB. In Theaters

3) ABOUT ENDLESSNESS– 2021. Synopsis by Netflix. “From Swedish auteur Roy Andersson comes this collection of caustic existential vignettes narrated by an otherworldly female voice who reflects on the story lines, which include an honor killing and a beaten army marching to a prisoner-of-war camp.”

4/27/21- Very good reviews for this Swedish drama. TRDB. In Theaters and various streaming platforms.

4) CLIFF WALKERS– 2021. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Set the puppet state of Manchukuo in the 1930s, the film follows four Communist party special agents who return to China after receiving training in the Soviet Union.”

5/3/21- Fair reviews by the critics and very good ones by audiences. TRDB. In Theaters.

5)  MARIGHELLA– 2020. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Facing a violent military dictatorship and an intimidated opposition, writer-turned-politician Carlos Marighella articulates a resistance all the while ousting heinous crimes of torture and the infamous censorship instituted by the regime.”

6) LUCY, THE HUMAN CHIMP– 2021. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Lucy the Human Chimp tells the profound story of Lucy Temerlin, a female chimpanzee raised as human from birth in a domestic environment, and Janis Carter, the woman who took on the seemingly impossible task of giving her a new life in the wild.”

5/3/21- Good reviews by the critics and poor ones from audiences. TRDB. On HBO MAX

7) EAT WHEATIES!- 2021. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Sid Straw leads a dull life until he accidentally stalks an old college classmate, actress Elizabeth Banks, on social media. With each failed attempt to prove he knows her, Sid rediscovers more of himself and the true meaning of friendship.”

5/3/21- Weak reviews in general from all. A few critics saw some redeeming value. TRDB. On HBO MAX AND Prime. Also in Theaters and various other streaming platforms.

8) FOUR GOOD D AYS– 2021. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “In an emotional journey based on a true story by Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post writer Eli Saslow, 31-year-old Molly begs her estranged mother Deb for help fighting a fierce battle against the demons that have derailed her life.”

5/4/21- Awful reviews by the critics and good ones from audiences. TRDB. In Theaters

9) THE MITCHELLS VS. THE MACHINES– 2021. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Young Katie Mitchell embarks on a road trip with her proud parents, younger brother and beloved dog to start her first year at film school. But their plans to bond as a family soon get interrupted when the world’s electronic devices come to life to stage an uprising.”

5/3/21- Excellent reviews for this movie that the whole family can enjoy. TRDB. On Netflix.

10) THE OUTSIDE STORY– 2021. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Brian Tyree Henry takes on his first big screen lead role as Charles Young, a broken-hearted video editor. Perceiving a betrayal of trust as a sign his girlfriend Isha (Sonequa Martin-Green) is leaving him, Charles preemptively blows up his relationship and sequesters himself at home.”

11) TRIUMPH– 2021. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. ” Despite having cerebral palsy, a bright and determined teen pushes himself to join the high-school wrestling team. Going to extreme lengths, he crushes obstacles and inspires others along his journey to prove his abilities.”

4) TOGETHER TOGETHER– 2021. Synopsis by Netflix. “When 26-year-old Anna agrees to be a gestational surrogate for middle-aged bachelor Matt — who’s eager to be a dad — she’s looking for a way to finance her college degree. But she gets much more as the two develop an unexpected friendship.”
