1) BECOMING- Netflix.

NEW STREAMABLE MOVIES-
1) VALLEY GIRL– 2020. Synopsis by Netflix. “In this musical adaptation of the 1983 movie, a new wave beat underscores the classic story of a naive girl from California’s San Fernando Valley who falls for a Hollywood punk rocker, much to the horror of her friends and family.”

5/8/20- Mixed reviews for this remake– mostly really poor ones. TRDB. On VUDU- to rent or to buy

2) HOW TO BUILD A GIRL- 2020. Synopsis by Netflix. “To escape her dull life, teen Johanna Morrigan creates a new identity for herself as Dolly Wilde, an acid-tongued, randy music critic. Taking her act to London, she elbows her way to the top of the rock scene — but her nastiness catches up with her.”

5/8/20– Fairly good reviews for this comedy. TRDB. VUDU- rent or buy

3) DRIVEWAYS- 2020. Synopsis by Netflix. “When 8-year-old Cody travels cross-country with his mom to clean out her late sister’s house, he’s ready for adventure. But little does he know that it will take the form of a friendship with the grouchy Korean War veteran next door.”

5/8/20- Excellent reviews for this drama. TRDB. On Prime Video

4) SOUTH MOUNTAIN– 2020. Synopsis by Netflix. “When her husband admits he’s fathered a child by another woman and declares he’s leaving, Lila sees the tranquility of her Catskills home shattered. With her daughters away for the summer, Lila is left alone to come to terms with her grief and rage.”

5) MOSSVILLE: WHEN GREAT TREES FALL– 2020. Synopsis by IMDB. “As a centuries-old black community, contaminated and uprooted by petrochemical plants, comes to terms with the loss of its ancestral home, one man standing in the way of a plant’s expansion refuses to give up.”

5/9/20- I’ve seen just 2 reviews for this documentary– 1 good and 1 poor but it sounds OK to me. TRDB. ?? where to stream it from

6) REWIND– 2020. Synopsis by Netflix. “After director Sasha Neulinger unearths a disturbing trove of home videos shot by his father during Sasha’s youth, he delves into his emotionally explosive memories of a past rife with abuse, which he details in this unsettling documentary.”

5/9/20- Excellent reviews for this documentary. TRDB. On Amazon Prime

7) CLEMENTINE– 2020. Synopsis by Netflix. “Still smoldering after being dumped by her older girlfriend, Karen breaks into her ex’s Pacific Northwest lake house. But instead of recovering in solitude, Karen begins a complicated relationship with a charismatic young woman from across the lake.”

5/9/20- Fair reviews at best. TRDB. Not sure if this movie can be streamed yet.

8) A GOOD WOMAN IS HARD TO FIND– 2020. Synopsis by Netflix. “In a housing estate plagued by drugs and violence, Sarah struggles to raise her two children alone after her husband’s vicious murder. But matters only get worse when a small-time dealer forces her to provide safe haven from a vengeful crime boss.”

5/9/20- Good reviews but it sounds gory to me and I’ll skip it. TRDB.

9) ON A MAGICAL NIGHT– 2020. Synopsis by Netflix. “When Maria confesses to her mate of 20 years that she’s had numerous affairs, he’s devastated, and she takes off. Moving into a hotel across from the couple’s apartment, she’s visited by ghosts from the past as she ruminates on her marriage”

10) WORKING MAN– 2020. Synopsis by Netflix. “At loose ends after the factory he’s worked at for decades shuts down, loyal Allery Parkes sneaks into the plant to continue working despite the closure. Ultimately, he inspires his unemployed colleagues to follow suit to try to revive the factory.”

11) BECOMING– 2020. Synopsis by Netflix. “Becoming is an intimate look into the life of former First Lady Michelle Obama during a moment of profound change, not only for her personally but for the country she and her husband served over eight impactful years in the White House. ”

5/8/20- Excellent reviews for this documentary. I liked it. TRDB. On Netflix.

12) BLUE STORY- 2020. Synopsis by Netflix. “This powerful crime drama centers on naïve Timmy and streetwise Marco, best friends since boyhood who live in different areas of London. But they find themselves on opposite sides when a brutal gang war erupts between their boroughs.”

COMING TO NETFLIX NEXT TUESDAY-
1) BUFFALOED– 2020. Synopsis by Netflix. ” Young Peg Dahl is so intent on escaping her hometown of Buffalo, New York, that she starts running scams in high school to raise money. After a scalping scheme lands her in jail, Peg turns to a new enterprise when she’s released: debt collection.”

2/14/20- Fair reviews for this drama. TRDB.

2) OLYMPIC DREAMS– 2020. Synopsis by Netflix. “Filmed at the Olympic Village during the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, this disarming romantic comedy focuses on the relationship that develops between an introverted cross-country skier and an extroverted volunteer dentist.”

2/14/20- Fair reviews at best. It sounds interesting to me. TRDB.

3) EMMA- 2020. Synopsis by Netflix. “Writer Jane Austen’s meddling heroine Emma Woodhouse comes alive again in this big-screen adaptation of the classic novel about a young woman who delights in matchmaking despite her woeful record of success.”

2/22/20- Very good reviews for this re-make. TRDB.

4) THE WAY BACK– 2020. Synopsis by Netflix. “After losing his wife and family while in the throes of alcohol addiction, a former professional hoops star looking for redemption returns to his high school to begin life anew when its head basketball coach resigns.”
