MOVIES I SAW THIS WEEK AT HOME-
1)
KNIVES OUT- 2019. Synopsis by Netflix. “In a sprawling old mansion, the members of an eccentric, quarrelsome clan gather to celebrate the patriarch’s birthday. But the party is cut short when he’s murdered — and the remaining family members soon begin to turn on one another.”
11/27/19- Excellent reviews for this mystery. TRDB.
4/20/20- I could take it or leave it. It did not live up to its hype. TRDB.
2)
SERGIO- Weak reviews. On Netflix.
4/22/20- I saw this and it was OK. Knowing that it was based on the life of Sergio de Mello made it somewhat more interesting. TRDB.
3) THE ENGLISH GAME– About 19th. century England and the game of “football.”
4/22/20- An interesting series about the upper class in England in 1870 and its objections to having the “lower classes” enter into “football” competition. TRDB. Netflix.

NEW STREAMING MOVIES-
1)
ENDINGS, BEGINNINGS– 2020. Synopsis by Netflix. “In the wake of a bad breakup, Daphne swears off men and takes up residence in her sister’s pool house. But at a New Year’s Eve party, she meets two attractive suitors — who are also best friends — and her plans go out the window.”
4/17/20- Mixed reviews but it sounds to me like it could be fun. TRDB. Streaming on Amazon and Google play and Pay per view
2) THE LEGEND OF SWEE’ PEA– A “mystical understanding of the game” made Lloyd “Swee’ Pea” Daniels a New York City basketball legend by the age of 16. Christened the “next Magic Johnson”, his career effectively ended at age 21 after being shot 3 times in the chest after a tussle over $8 of cocaine. The Legend of Swee’ Pea follows the twists and turns of fortune in the life of a basketball prodigy: his dramatic downfall, miraculous comeback, and, finally, the bittersweet confrontation with a life imperfectly lived. On Google and pay per view
3)
BEYOND THE VISIBLE: HILMA AF KLINT– 2020. Synopsis by Netflix. “Four years before Wassily Kandinsky introduced the world to abstract art, Hilma af Klint completed her first abstract canvas. More than a century later, the long-overlooked artist gets her first solo show in America, as recounted in this documentary.”
4/17/20- Very good reviews for this documentary. TRDB. On Kino
4)
A WHITE, WHITE DAY– 2020. Synopsis by Netflix. “After his wife dies in a mysterious car crash, police chief Ingimundur falls into a deep emotional crisis. Torn apart by grief, he grows more bitter and unbalanced, and begins stalking a man who may have had an affair with Ingimundur’s wife.”

Viktor Stein (David Kross), Gerry Falkland (Frederick Lau) and the banker Nicole Kleber (Janina Uhse) get incredibly rich within a short period of time. But soon they are sucked deeper and deeper into a maelstrom of lies, fraud and deceit – until at some point they completely lose sight of reality and have to decide what is really important to them.”
