2) BEIRUT- 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “In 1972, a tragedy forces U.S. envoy Mason Skiles to abandon his post in Beirut. A decade later, the ex-diplomat finds himself back in the same city — this time to help save the life of the colleague and friend he left behind.”
4/10/18- Very good reviews in general– the NY Times did not like it. TRDB.
10/1/18- The NY Times did not like this movie and neither did I!!! Trite and boring I nearly fell asleep watching. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

2) EIGHTH GRADE– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “As Kayla Day begins the last week of a difficult year in eighth grade, the emotional perils of adolescence swirl around her. Though she’s comfortable with her online persona, the looming social challenges of high school terrify her.”

3) DON’T WORRY, HE WON’T GET FAR ON FOOT– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “When a car accident leaves John Callahan confined to a wheelchair at age 21, the Oregon native begins drawing as physical therapy. Before long, a dark comedic vision emerges — and a career as a cartoonist follows.”
7/13/18- Fairly good reviews from the critics and excellent reviews from audiences. TRDB.
4) A PRAYER BEFORE DAWN– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “In this fact-based drama, boxer Billy Moore travels to Thailand to start a new life but quickly lapses back into old habits that land him in prison. To survive the ordeal, he must learn the deadly sport of Muay Thai boxing.”

9/28/18- The premise alone sounds interesting but this movie has received poor reviews. I would, however, give it a try. TRDB.

2) THE OLD MAN & THE GUN– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “Based on the true-life exploits of bank robber Forrest Tucker, this serio-comic tale recounts his daring escape from prison at age 70 and the long string of heists that preceded the bandit’s final arrest at age 78.”
9/29/18- Good early reviews but I saw the trailer and it looked stupid. I’ll probably see it on disc. or by streaming. TRDB.
3) ALL ABOUT NINA– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “As fearless as she is onstage, edgy stand-up comic Nina Geld is a mess when it comes to her personal life. But after Nina moves to Los Angeles, she meets quiet contractor Rafe, who promptly upends most of her assumptions about life.”

4) MONSTERS AND MEN– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “Depicting the aftermath when a white police officer shoots an unarmed black man, this timely drama intertwines the stories of the onlooker who filmed the act, a conflicted African-American cop and a young athlete turned into an activist by the event.”

5) CRUISE- 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “Growing up in the 1980s, young New Yorker Gio Fortunato is leading a footloose and fancy-free life focused on easy women and fast cars — until a Jewish girl from Long Island attracts his attention.”
9/28/18- The premise alone sounds interesting but this movie has received poor reviews. Still, I’d give it a try. TRDB.
6) MATANGI/MAYA/M.I.A.- 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “Culled from more than two decades of film — including a treasure trove of personal footage — this insightful documentary paints a compelling portrait of provocative pop star M.I.A., who continues to defy conventions.”

7) SCAFFOLDING- 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “Nearing the end of his high school days, volatile 17-year-old Asher faces a choice about his future: either work in his father’s scaffolding business or follow the advice of an inspiring teacher who has awakened Asher to other possibilities.”
9/28/18- Fair reviews at best but the reviews sounded interesting to me. TRDB.
8) HOLD THE DARK- 2018. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Retired naturalist and wolf expert Russell Core journeys to the edge of civilization in northern Alaska at the pleading of Medora Slone , a young mother whose son was killed by a pack of wolves. As Core attempts to help Medora track down the wolves who took her son, a strange and dangerous relationship develops between the two lonely souls.”

9) BLACK ’47– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “After fighting for the British Empire in Afghanistan, an Irish Ranger deserts his post to return home in 1847. Shocked by the mass starvation of his people wrought by the potato blight, he sets out to exact revenge on those he considers at fault.”
