1) THE CAGE FIGHTER– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “At age 40, family man Joe Carman breaks his vow never to resume mixed martial arts fighting. Training in secret, Joe prepares to battle a new generation of competitors, convinced that he’s also fighting to conquer his inner demons.”

2/2/18- Good reviews in general but none glowing. TRDB.

2) BLACK PANTHER– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “After the devastating battles chronicled in “Captain America: Civil War,” Black Panther’s alter ego, T’Challa, returns to his homeland of Wakanda to be crowned its new king. But he soon faces enemies who will test all his superpowers.”

2/13/18- Great reviews for this much hyped new superhero movie with a black star. TRDB.

Recommended-

1) A KID LIKE JAKE– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “Progressive parents Alex and Greg have always accepted their 4-year-old son Jake’s penchant for dolls and dresses. But the couple finds themselves at odds when his preschool director suggests the boy’s preferences may signal gender-identity issues.”

5/31/18- Mixed reviews– slightly more positive than negative. TRDB.

2) ADRIFT– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “Anticipating a great adventure, Tami sets sail on a Pacific Ocean voyage with her fiancé, Richard. But the trip doesn’t go as planned when a massive hurricane leaves Richard badly hurt and the boat in shambles, with the closest port 1,500 miles away.”

5/31/18- Early reviews are good for this adventure story. TRDB.

3) UPGRADE- 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “In a world where technology controls almost everything, technophobe Gary is a fish out of water. But when his wife is murdered and he suffers a paralyzing injury, he uses a computer chip implant to exact revenge.”

5/31/18- Very good reviews. TRDB.

4) NOSSA CHAPE– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “This compelling documentary chronicles the challenging process of rebuilding Brazil’s Chapecoense soccer team after a tragic 2016 plane crash kills all but three of the players, decimating the squad’s roster and staff.”

5/31/18- Mostly very good reviews. TRDB.

5) BREATH– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “In small-town Australia, teenage “Pikelet” and his best friend, “Loonie,” find an escape in the ocean and a mentor in reclusive professional surfer Sando — who exhorts them to take chances that will have profound and enduring effects on them.”

Not Recommended

1) AMERICAN ANIMALS– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “In this riveting drama based on a real-life crime caper, college freshmen Spencer and Warren cook up a plan to make off with their school’s rare book collection, enlisting two fellow students as accomplices to carry out the daring heist.”

5/31/18- Weak reviews– one critic called it mundane and stupid. TRDB.

2) RODIN– About the famous sculptor.  Terrible reviews.

3) THE DOCTOR FROM INDIA– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “This absorbing documentary profiles holistic healer Dr. Vasant Lad, who — fulfilling a fate foretold by his family guru — introduced the West to the ancient Indian medical practice of Ayurveda in the 1970s.”

4) SOCIAL ANIMALS– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “With her love life and her business falling apart, Zoe falls for Paul, a man who seems to understand her. Crushed to learn that he’s married and has kids, Zoe comes up with an idea she hopes will jump-start her romantic and business situations.”

1) MARY SHELLEY– Jacob Burns. 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “At age 16, Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin shocks her family and society by running off with rakish poet Percy Shelley. But tragedy soon follows when their infant daughter dies — which leads young Mary to write “Frankenstein.””

2) WON’T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR?- Jacob Burns. 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “Touching on the many facets and talents of a unique and beloved personality, this affectionate documentary profiles ingenuous and kindly Fred Rogers, host of the children’s show “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood” for more than 30 years.”

6/6/17- Great reviews for this documentary. TRDB.

1) SOLLERS POINT- 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “Out of prison but under house arrest, petty criminal Keith is living at his dad’s Baltimore house while waiting to rejoin the community. But as Keith tries to get on the right track, past connections keep drawing him back to his former life.”

5/18/18- Very good reviews for this drama. TRDB.

2) BECOMING WHO I WAS- 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “Born in Tibet, young Padma Angdu is living in Northern India when he learns that he was a revered Buddhist master in an earlier life. Accompanied by his aging godfather, Angdu sets off on a perilous quest to find his place in the world.”

5/1/18- Excellent reviews for this documentary. TRDB.

D) THE LIVING ROOM THEATERS AT FAU IN BOCA RATON-

1) ALWAYS AT THE CARLYSLE– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “A landmark since its 1930 debut, New York City’s Carlyle Hotel houses a raft of celebrities, many of whom share their reminiscences in this documentary, which also includes engaging stories from longtime staffers who are legendary in their own right.”
