MOVIES I SAW THIS WEEK AT THE THEATER-
1)
1945- 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “In the days after the end of World War II, a Hungarian village is set to celebrate a wedding when two Orthodox Jews arrive, igniting residents’ fears that the men have come to reclaim property divvied up among their neighbors during the war.”
11/28/17- Excellent reviews. TRDB.
2/1/18- An interesting drama dealing with the seizure of property from the Jews during the Holocaust. TRDB.

MOVIES I SAW THIS WEEK AT HOME-
1)
HOLLOW IN THE LAND– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “A year after Alison Miller’s dad is jailed for murder, her brother vanishes and is accused of murder when a corpse turns up in a trailer park. Now, Alison is determined to find her sibling and prove his innocence despite the evidence against him.”
12/7/17- Just 5 reviews noted and 4 out of the 5 are very good. TRDB.
2/6/18- I beg to differ. Incredibly boring and I turned it off. TRDB. Netflix Disc.
2) MARSHALL– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Recounting an early case of attorney Thurgood Marshall — who would later become the first African-American Supreme Court justice — this riveting drama depicts his defense of a black chauffeur accused of sexual assault.”
2/7/18- I enjoyed the movie and learned more about Marshall then I expected to learn from a movie more about his early professional life before becoming a Supreme Court Justice. TRDB. Netflix Disc.
3) ABE AND PHIL’S LAST POKER GAME– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “After moving into a nursing home with his invalid wife, Abe Mandelbaum forms a bond with womanizing gambler Phil Nicoletti. But their friendship is put to the test when they both claim to be the father of a young nurse looking for her biological dad.”
1/12/18- Fair reviews at best. TRDB.
2/7/18- I enjoyed the movie especially the relationship between the two men. Martin Landau excellent as usual. TRDB. Comcast On-Demand.

REBELS ON POINTE– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Since its founding in 1974, New York City’s Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo — the all-male drag ballet corps — has won fans with performances as beautifully executed as they are cleverly camp. This documentary offers a look behind the scenes.”
11/15/17- I’ve seen just one review and it is good. TRDB.

ROMAN J. ISRAEL, ESQ.- 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “For defense attorney Roman Israel, protecting the rights of society’s most vulnerable is a personal crusade. Drafted by a top law firm after his partner dies, Israel learns that the firm uses nefarious tactics, putting him in a tight ethical corner.”
11/17/17- Poor reviews for this movie with Denzel Washington.

THE BALLAD OF LEFTY BROWN– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “As his boss, Eddie Johnson, prepares to become a Montana senator, loyal Lefty Brown prepares to be the man in charge for the first time in his life. But his plans to run Eddie’s ranch are upended when Eddie is murdered — and now Lefty wants revenge.”

1)
24 FRAMES– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “Dispensing with a narrative structure, this carefully crafted last work of Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami consists of 24 four-and-a-half-minute segments, each inspired by one of many still photos he shot over the years.”
2/2/18- Excellent views for this drama that sounds more like a documentary to me. TRDB.
2) BEFORE WE VANISH– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “Sent to survey planet Earth, three aliens each take over a different human body and mind, harvesting the hosts’ memories, concepts and emotions to pave the way for a full-blown invasion — and the annihilation of humanity.”
2/2/18- Fairly good reviews from critics and audiences as well. TRDB.
3) THE CAGE FIGHTER– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “At age 40, family man Joe Carman breaks his vow never to resume mixed martial arts fighting. Training in secret, Joe prepares to battle a new generation of competitors, convinced that he’s also fighting to conquer his inner demons.”

1) THE MUSIC OF SILENCE– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “Faithfully rendering the moving saga of blind tenor Andrea Bocelli, this musical biopic chronicles his meteoric rise to fame and the crossover success that turned him into a worldwide star.”

2) ABOVE & BEYOND ACOUSTIC– 2018. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “In 2016, GRAMMY-nominated trio Above & Beyond left the electronic world behind, risking it all to go acoustic. Their new film Above & Beyond Acoustic – Giving Up The Day Job, follows the group’s unlikely journey from the DJ booth to the Hollywood Bowl.”
