1)
THE LAST WORD– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Not about to cede control of any facet of her life — or death — retired businesswoman Harriet Lawler hires a young writer to pen an obituary worthy of her. When the results fall short of Harriet’s expectations, she sets out to reshape her legacy.”
3/3/17- The critics didn’t like this movie at all. The premise sounds funny to me and I would definitely try it. TRDB.

1) THE BEAUTIFUL FANTASTIC– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “When her landlord forces librarian and aspiring author Bella Brown to clean up her overgrown garden, she meets grumpy elderly neighbor Alfie Stephenson, who’s an avid horticulturalist — and an unlikely friendship is born.”3/10/17- Fair reviews. TRDB.
2) WILSON– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Daniel Clowes’ graphic novel comes to life in this comic tale about a man who gets back together with his long-estranged wife … and learns he has a daughter. Set in his ways and decidedly neurotic, he’s determined to win his offspring’s affection.”3/21/17- Mostly poor reviews. TRDB.

A GHOST STORY– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “When a young husband suffers a tragic premature death, his mournful spirit lingers, unable to leave the home or wife he loves. But after she moves on and moves out, he remains, eventually learning lessons about life, love and loss.”7/7/17-
Fairly good reviews– better from the critics than audiences. TRDB.
2) THE REHEARSAL– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Just as first-year acting student Stanley is coming into his own, his girlfriend’s family becomes involved in a scandal. Now, Stanley’s peers want to mine his insider insight into the predicament for material for their end-of-year show.”
7/7/17- Fairly good reviews from the critics and weak ones from audiences. TRDB.
3) SWIM TEAM– 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “This touching documentary follows a competitive swim team composed of autistic teenagers — the Jersey Hammerheads — profiling three of the athletes striving to rise above their disability to achieve success in and out of the pool.”

4) THE CONFESSIONS– 2017. Synopsis by IMDB. “A G8 meeting is being held at a luxury hotel on the German coast. The world’s most powerful economists are gathered to enact important provisions that will deeply influence the world economy. One of the guests is a mysterious Italian monk, invited by Daniel Rochè, the director of the International Monetary Fund. He wants the monk to receive his confession, that night, in secret. The next morning, Rochè is found dead…”
7/7/17- Early reviews are mixed for this French drama. TRDB.
5) OUR TIME WILL COME– 2017. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. TRDB. “1941. Hong Kong is under Japanese occupation. The anti-Japanese Dongjiang guerilla unit is tasked with rescuing cultural figures and extracting them from the besieged city. Primary school teacher, Fang Lan (Zhou Xun) and her mother are trying to live out this difficult period in a small run-down flat in Wanchai. After the schools are shut down, Lan unwittingly finds herself embroiled in the guerillas’ mission to save novelist Mao Dun.”

19) MOONLIGHT- Good but not nearly as good as the critics said
20) OTHER PEOPLE- I liked this very much
21) PATERSON- Very different but I liked this slow moving film
22) ROOM- Very good
23) THE SALESMAN- An excellent movie from Iran
24) THE SENSE OF AN ENDING- I liked the movie and Jim Broadbent in particular
25) SNOWDEN- I liked it– the topic is still in the news
26) SULLY- I liked it very much
27) ZERO DAYS- Very interesting and I recommend it

NEW IN THE BURBS-
1) LOST IN PARIS– Jacob Burns. 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “When her elderly Aunt Martha in Paris asks for help, Canadian librarian Fiona sets off for France, but by the time she arrives, Martha has vanished. While searching for her, Fiona crosses paths with a pesky vagabond — and can’t seem to shake him.”6/16/17- Very good reviews by the critics– audiences did not like it. I’d try it.
2) CITY OF GHOSTS– Jacob Burns. 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “When the Islamic State gained control of Raqqa, Syria, in 2014, an anonymous group of activists from the city became citizen reporters covering the crisis. This documentary chronicles the story of these on-the-run and in-exile victims of terror.”7/13/17- Excellent reviews for this documentary. TRDB.
