FILM REVIEWS #980

JANUARY 5, 2024-
DEAR FRIENDS-
QUICK LOOK AT MY FAVORITES OF THE WEEK-
1) THE COLOR PURPLE– At the Theater
2) ROSE– On Prime
_____________________________________________________________________
MOVIES I SAW THIS WEEK-
1) THE COLOR PURPLE– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “A story of love and resilience based on the novel and the Broadway musical, THE COLOR PURPLE is a decades-spanning tale of one woman’s journey to independence. Celie faces many hardships in her life, but ultimately finds extraordinary strength and hope in the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood.”

12/24/23- Very good reviews for this drama and I liked it. TRDB.

2) ROSE– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “ROSE is the story of two sisters, Inger and Ellen, and how their relationship is challenged on a highly anticipated coach trip to Paris. When Inger announces her struggles with mental health to the group, the sisters are faced with pity from some and discrimination from others. On arrival in Paris, it soon becomes clear that Inger has a hidden agenda concerning a figure from her past, ultimately involving the entire group in her hunt for answers. ROSE is a film about love and care for each other, in spite of our differences, as much as it is a film about not judging a book by its cover.”

1/2/24- Excellent reviews by the critics and fairly good ones from audiences for this Danish drama. Make sure you are seeing the movie ROSE from 2024 and Not the one from 2022. TRDB.

The film, directed by George Clooney, is about the 1936 University of Washington rowing team that competed for gold at the Summer Olympics in Berlin. This inspirational true story follows a group of underdogs at the height of the Great Depression as they are thrust into the spotlight and take on elite rivals from around the world.”

3) ALL OF US STRANGERS– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “One night in his near-empty tower block in contemporary London, Adam (Andrew Scott) has a chance encounter with a mysterious neighbor Harry (Paul Mescal), which punctures the rhythm of his everyday life. 12/24/23- Excellent reviews for this drama. TRDB.

4) THE IRON CLAW– 2023. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “The true story of the inseparable Von Erich brothers, who made history in the intensely competitive world of professional wrestling in the early 1980s.
