Synopsis by Netflix. “In\u00a0the<\/strong>\u00a0early days of World War II, Polish Catholic social worker\u00a0Irena<\/strong>\u00a0Sendler<\/strong>\u00a0(Anna Paquin, in a Golden Globe-nominated turn) devises a daring plan: Disguised as nurses, she and colleagues gain access to\u00a0the<\/strong>\u00a0Jewish ghetto in Warsaw and smuggled some 2,500 Jewish children to safety. John Kent Harrison directs this drama based on\u00a0Sendler<\/strong>‘s real-life exploits, for which she received a Nobel Peace Prize nomination. Marcia Gay Harden and Nathaniel Parker co-star.”<\/div>\n

Synopsis by Netflix. “In this fact-based drama, a small-town nurse becomes a national hero after daring to go up against corporate giant Pfizer in a fight to keep the homes in her blue-collar neighborhood from being bulldozed to accommodate redevelopment.”<\/p>\n

3) EIGHTH GRADE<\/strong>– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “As Kayla Day begins the last week of a difficult year in eighth grade, the emotional perils of adolescence swirl around her. Though she’s comfortable with her online persona, the looming social challenges of high school terrify her.”<\/p>\n

8\/11\/18-\u00a0I enjoyed the movie but it was far from great. Trying to make the movie more entertaining took away somewhat from the message. TRDB.\u00a0<\/strong>At the Theater.<\/p>\n

2) THE CAKEMAKER<\/strong>– 2018. Synopsis by Netflix. “Thomas, a young German baker, is having an affair with Oren, an Israeli married man who has frequent business visits in Berlin. When Oren dies in a car crash in Israel, Thomas travels to Jerusalem seeking answers regarding his death. Under a fabricated identity, Thomas infiltrates into the life of Anat, his lover’s newly widowed wife, who owns a small Caf\u00e9 in downtown Jerusalem. Thomas starts to work for her and create German cakes and cookies that bring life into her Caf\u00e9. Thomas finds himself involved in Anat’s life in a way far beyond his anticipation, and to protect the truth he will stretch his lie to a point of no return.”<\/p>\n

7) A BREAD FACTORY, PART 1 AND PART 2-<\/strong> 2018. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Forty years ago, Dorothea (Tyne Daly) and Greta (Elisabeth Henry) moved to the town of Checkford and bought an abandoned bread factory that they transformed into an arts space. Here they host movies, plays, dance, exhibits and artists. It’s where civic groups and immigrant communities can meet, where there are after school programs for children. Now a celebrity couple-performance artists from China-have come to Checkford.”<\/p>\n

8) SHIRKERS<\/strong>– 2018. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Shirkers was a Singapore-made 1992 cult classic from teenage friends Sandi Tan, Jasmine Ng and Sophie Siddique–or it would have been, had the 16mm footage not been stolen by their enigmatic American collaborator Georges Cardona. More than two decades after Cardona disappeared, Tan, now a novelist in L.A., returns to the country of her youth and to the memories of a man who both enabled and thwarted her dreams.”<\/p>\n
