1) THE BIG SHORT<\/strong>– 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “Before the housing and credit bubble of 2007 triggers an international economic meltdown, a handful of financial outsiders sees the crash coming and bets against the big banks in a daring play that could reap them huge profits.”<\/p>\n

12\/11\/15-\u00a0<\/span>Very good reviews for this Wall Street drama. TRDB.<\/strong><\/p>\n

12\/31\/15-\u00a0<\/span>This movie was done in a very clever manner and managed to make the recent near collapse of the world economy understandable at the same time. I liked\u00a0the movie a lot. TRDB. <\/strong><\/p>\n

2)\u00a0CAROL<\/strong>– 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “Living in a 1950s society that considers lesbian romance taboo, two women from disparate backgrounds — young store clerk Therese Belivet and wealthy socialite Carol Aird — develop an attachment to each other that ultimately turns passionate.”<\/p>\n

10\/18\/15-\u00a0<\/span>Excellent reviews for this drama starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. TRDB.<\/strong><\/p>\n

1\/4\/16- Great reviews as noted and I did\u00a0like the movie. I feel that the love affair, as portrayed,\u00a0lacked the emotional intensity that I expected. I’ve also seen Cate Blanchett do much better in other roles. TRDB.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

3) JOY<\/strong>– 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “After 10 years of trying to mass-market the revolutionary floor mop she had invented, housewife Joy Mangano strikes gold with a personal pitch on QVC that turns her Miracle Mop into an overnight marketing miracle.”<\/span><\/p>\n

1\/6\/16-\u00a0<\/span>Surprisingly enough I found myself enjoying this movie thanks mostly to the acting of Jennifer Lawrence, a character that we can all root for. TRDB.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But the legendary sleuth, whose mental powers are fading, remains haunted by the unsolved case that caused him to call it quits.”<\/p>\n

7\/13\/15-\u00a0<\/span>Mostly good reviews with some notable exceptions. TRDB.<\/strong><\/p>\n

12\/31\/15-\u00a0<\/span>Enjoyable, especially the acting. Certainly not a great work of art. TRDB. <\/strong>Netflix.<\/p>\n

2) MERU<\/strong>– 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “Taking on one of the most extreme challenges in mountaineering, three elite climbers set out to scale the imposing Shark’s Fin on India’s Mount Meru. This high-altitude documentary follows the tenacious team as they experience heartbreak and triumph.”<\/p>\n

8\/10\/15-\u00a0<\/span>Great reviews. TRDB.<\/strong><\/p>\n

1\/6\/16- One more thing that I never want to do no matter how long I live. A well done documentary with some good insight into why\u00a0and how people continue to place themselves in such danger. Also, a big question for me is\u00a0why they attempted the final climb with a handicapped partner. TRDB.\u00a0<\/strong>Netflix.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

7\/14\/15-\u00a0<\/span>As usual, Woody Allen’s\u00a0reviews are all over the place– some very good and others horrible. More negative than positive but that won’t stop me from seeing it. TRDB.<\/strong><\/p>\n

7\/29\/15-\u00a0<\/span>I think that the critics have it in for Woody. While surely not one of his best I did very much enjoy the movie. TRDB. <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

2) THE LOOK OF SILENCE<\/strong>– 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “Through the companion documentary The Act of Killing, a family learned how their son was murdered in the 1960s Indonesian genocide. Now, the victim’s kin confronts the culprits — an unthinkable act in a country where the killers remain in power.”<\/p>\n

7\/17\/15-\u00a0<\/span>Excellent reviews from everyone. TRDB.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

3) THE LOOKING GLASS<\/strong>– 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “After her mom’s death, 13-year-old Julie is sent to Indiana to live with her Grandmother Karen, who’s in the first stages of Alzheimer’s. Stuck in an unfamiliar environment, Julie repeatedly clashes with Karen — until they discover a mutual talent.”<\/p>\n

10\/23\/15-\u00a0<\/span>I’ve seen 4 reviews– 2 very good and 2 very bad. For now, I’d recommend it. TRDB.<\/strong><\/p>\n

4) IN THE BASEMENT<\/strong>– 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “Behind their manicured yards and ordinary fa\u00e7ades, all the houses in this documentary have basements, and it’s here that the occupants satisfy their obsessions — from belting out arias to collecting Nazi memorabilia to acting out sexual fantasies.”<\/p>\n

11\/6\/15-\u00a0<\/span>Very good reviews by the critics but\u00a0poor ones from audiences. Sounds like it could be interesting.\u00a0TRDB.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

5) HE NAMED ME MALALA<\/strong>– 2015.\u00a0Synopsis by Netflix. “Vividly portraying the obstacles Pakistani women face in getting an education because of prohibitions by the Taliban, this affecting documentary chronicles the story of Malala Yousafzai, a 15-year-old who was shot because of her advocacy efforts.”<\/p>\n

10\/2\/15-\u00a0<\/span>Just OK reviews. Most said it was too timid and it felt like everything was rehearsed. I would see it just for the history.\u00a0TRDB.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

6) HOW TO SMELL A ROSE: A VISIT WITH RICKY LEACOCK IN NORMANDY<\/strong>-2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “In this documentary about a documentarian, filmmaker Les Blank visits cinema verit\u00e9 pioneer Richard Leacock in Normandy, France, to talk movies, food and life. Footage from Leacock’s films and his personal reminiscences round out the portrait.”<\/p>\n

7) UNCLE JOHN<\/strong>– 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “Taking a spur-of-the-moment trip to his small hometown with his pretty new boss, graphic designer Ben arrives to learn that the recent disappearance of a local man has created a cloud of suspicion around Ben’s beloved Uncle John.”<\/p>\n

10\/26\/15-\u00a0<\/span>A splendid movie with wonderful acting and a great screenplay. The movie is fiction but there is ample precedent for this scenario. TRDB.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

2) HITCHCOCK\/TRUFFAUT<\/strong>– 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “Movie history was changed forever when director Fran\u00e7ois Truffaut published his 1966 book “Cinema According to Hitchcock.” In this engaging documentary, a host of prominent filmmakers describes the effect that Truffaut’s book had on their work.”<\/p>\n
