INCH’ALLAH

INCH’ALLAH- 2012. Synopsis by Netflix. “A Canadian obstetrician living in Israel makes multiple passes through heavily guarded checkpoints to get to her job at a women’s health clinic in Palestine. But political tensions take on personal overtones when she befriends a pregnant patient.”

8/16/13- A weak review in today’s NY Times and mixed ones in general, some loving it and some calling it contrived at best. TRDB.

6/20/14- A thought provoking drama that uses minimal dialogue and maximum acting to convey the story. I liked it but it is controversial for sure. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

YOU WILL BE MY SON- 2013. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Paul de Marseul (Niels Aretrup) is the passionate, demanding proprietor of his prestigious family wine estate. But he has no faith in his son, Martin (Loran Deutsch), who works at the vineyard. Paul dreams of a harder-working, successful son-a dream that one day seemingly materializes when he meets Philip (Nicolas Bridet), the son of his dying estate manager (Patrick Chesnais). Can Paul turn against his own blood and turn Philip into the rightful heir of his family estate?”

Here’s what Netflix had to say– “Doubtful that his own son is up to the task, the demanding owner of a vintage chateau and wine label turns to the offspring of his late caretaker to maintain the strict principles of his prestigious business.”

10/27/13- I loved the acting, the story and the characters. What else can I say? You should see this one! TRDB.

EITHER WAY- 2011. Synopsis by Netflix. “Two employees of the Icelandic Road Administration spend the summer painting lines on the winding roads that stretch out to the distant horizon. With no one but each other for company, the barren wilderness becomes a place of adventure, disaster and discovery as both men reach difficult crossroads in their lives.”

8/16/13- Yesterday I saw the American remake of this Icelandic movie called “Prince Avalanche” and enjoyed it very much. TRDB.

UNA NOCHE- 2012. Synopsis by Netflix. “After Cuban teenager Raul is accused of assault, he and his best friend decide to flee the country and make the 90-mile journey to the United States. Elio’s twin sister — whom he is reluctant to leave behind — narrates their harrowing story.”

8/23/13- An excellent review in today’s NY Times. TRDB.

9/11/13- I liked this movie that was about coming of age in the setting of Havana, Cuba but instead of rebelling against their parents they are rebelling against the state. Excellent acting made this movie excel. TRDB. Concast On-Demand.

BLOOD

BLOOD- 2013. Synopsis by Netflix. “Living in the shadow of their police chief father, two detective brothers commit the ultimate crime while interrogating a suspect, and the fear of being caught turns their lives into a downward spiral of guilt and paranoia.”

8/9/13- Poor reviews all around but several critics brought out some good points in the film. TRDB.
