11/3/14- I enjoyed this fun road trip movie. TRDB. Netflix.

MAGIC IN THE MOONLIGHT

MAGIC IN THE MOONLIGHT- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Exposing a phony soothsayer proves harder than expected when the debunker (an Englishman) becomes smitten with the purported fraud (a French beauty). This deft romantic comedy unwinds amid the gilt and glamour of the French Riviera in the 1920s.”

7/25/14- Woody’s latest has gotten poor reviews from most critics. I’m certain to see it anyway. TRDB.

8/4/14- As mentioned above, there have been many negative reviews of this movie but I found it a delightful drama obviously NOT meant to be  a comedy. TRDB.

WISH I WAS HERE- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “With his acting career moribund, Aidan Bloom steers a new tack in life, taking over his children’s education when private school becomes too costly. Finding much to learn as well as teach, Aidan develops his own unique curriculum for the kids.”

JACKPOT

JACKPOT- 2011. Synopsis by Netflix. “Driven by a fairly outrageous proposition, this blood-soaked comedy opens with Oscar Svendson waking up in the middle of a grisly murder scene. Oscar tries to prove his innocence to the police with the tale of a huge lottery win that went very wrong.”

6/27/14- Today’s NY Times gave this one a mixed review. I couldn’t find other reviews. TRDB.

FONZY

FONZY- 2014. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “José Garcia plays Diego Costa, who, 20 years ago, using the nickname Fonzy, regularly donated his sperm for research purposes. Now aged 42, Diego delivers fish for his family’s firm, and lives like a fun-loving teenager. But when his girlfriend Elsa announces she’s pregnant, his past starts to catch up with him.”

6/20/14- Critical review was only slightly better than audience reviews and that’s not saying much. The movie sounds like 2 others this year. TRDB.

OBVIOUS CHILD

OBVIOUS CHILD- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “After being fired from her job and dumped by her cheating boyfriend, a comedian bottoms out and has a drunken one-night stand with a nice guy who’s not her type. Weeks later, she finds out she’s pregnant.”

6/6/14- Very good reviews, including the review in today’s NY Times. TRDB.

6/23/14- I liked this movie very much– I’d call it a “slice of life” romantic comedy. TRDB.

LUCKY THEM

LUCKY THEM- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Seattle music journalist Ellie Klug is ordered to write a feature on her ex-boyfriend, celebrated musician Matthew Smith, who disappeared 10 years earlier, but her reluctant mission is complicated by the presence of Charlie, an amateur documentarian.”

5/30/14- Good reviews. TRDB.

10/9/14- A bit flimsy but fun never-the-less. TRDB.

FILTH

FILTH- 2013. Synopsis by Netflix. “An arrogant, corrupt cop who believes he’s the only competent person in his department sees a recent murder case as a path to promotion. But the investigation brings the deluded officer into a rendezvous with reality that he’s wholly unprepared for.”

5/30/14- Mixed reviews– more positive than negative. The NY Times did not like it. TRDB.

THE GRAND SEDUCTION- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “The cash-strapped burg of Tickle Cove must persuade a doctor to move to town if they want a plastics manufacturer to build a new factory there. But selling the advantages of the tiny Newfoundland village to a young professional won’t be easy.”

5/30/14- Good reviews from audiences and mixed reviews from the critics. TRDB.

10/20/14- Suspend reality and you may be able to enjoy this comedy. If it’s “take it or leave it”– leave it. TRDB.
