3/27/15- Fairly good reviews for this Israeli comedy. TRDB.

AMOUR FOU

AMOUR FOU- 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “After his cousin declines his bizarre request to join him in a double suicide, melancholy writer Heinrich von Kleist meets the married Henriette Vogel, who over time becomes receptive to the same fateful proposal.”

3/18/15- Excellent professional reviews but just OK audience reaction. The NY Times liked it. TRDB.

ROAD HARD

ROAD HARD- 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “Bruce Madsen’s success as a stand-up comedian led to TV and movie roles, but those have long since dried up — along with his marriage. To pay his daughter’s college fees, he reluctantly returns to the rigors of life as a touring comic.”

3/6/15- Critics are 50/50 on this one but audiences have liked it a lot. TRDB.

10/28/15- Put me in the positive column– I liked it. TRDB. Netflix.

THE MAFIA ONLY KILLS IN SUMMER- 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “Covering two turbulent decades in Sicilian history, this sorrow-tinged comedy recalls the Mafia’s iron grip on the region as seen through the eyes of Arturo, who grows up in Palermo during the mob’s infamous campaign of bombings and assassinations.”

4/6/15- I enjoyed this movie quite a bit– both humorous and serious at the same time. TRDB.

MR. KAPLAN

MR. KAPLAN- 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “Depressed by his advancing age, Uruguayan transplant Jacob Kaplan is lamenting his irrelevance when he becomes convinced that a local bar owner is an ex-Nazi — and promptly embarks on a quest to expose the old German.”

3/2/15- No reviews as yet but it sounds interesting. TRDB.

3/8/15- A bit slow and sad but an interesting premise and excellent acting contribute to make this well worth seeing. TRDB.

FOCUS

FOCUS- 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “After falling for his pretty young protégé, expert con man Nicky Spurgeon ends their romance when he realizes it will only complicate matters. But his decision comes back to haunt him when she turns up later on the other side of Nicky’s newest scam.”
