THE BOOK OF LIFE- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Zoe Saldana, Danny Trejo and Cheech Marin lend their voices to this splashy animated fable that weaves a Romeo-and-Juliet story against the backdrop of the Mexican customs surrounding the Day of the Dead.”

10/17/14- Fairly good reviews although the NY Times basically that the film had less energy than the dead people in the movie. TRDB.

THE CONGRESS- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Actress Robin Wright plays herself in this surreal drama about a film star who agrees to have her digital image recorded for reuse in future films. Despite the handsome payoff, Robin begins to recognize some unforeseen consequences of the deal.”

9/5/14- Fairly good critical review. Audience reviews are mixed so far. TRDB.

ERNEST & CELESTINE

ERNEST & CELESTINE- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Adapted from a popular children’s book series, this sweet animated drama portrays the friendship between an orphan mouse and a free-spirited bear. After persuading Ernest the bear not to eat her, Celestine the mouse ends up moving in with him.”

3/14/14- Very good reviews from everybody. The NY Times liked it also. TRDB.

FREE BIRDS

FREE BIRDS- 2013. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “In this irreverent, hilarious, adventurous buddy comedy, directed by Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears a Who!), two turkeys from opposite sides of the tracks must put aside their differences and team up to travel back in time to change the course of history – and get turkey off the holiday menu for good.”

11/18/13- I saw this yesterday in Boston with 2 of my grandchildren. A cute animated movie for kids that they both enjoyed. I found it clever as well. TRDB.

THE WIND RISES- 2013. Synopsis by Netflix. “Master animator Hayao Miyazaki spins a decades-spanning tale inspired by the life of Jirô Horikoshi, designer of the World War II fighter plane the Zero. Too nearsighted to become a pilot, Jirô settles for building planes, with spectacular results.”

11/8/13- Very good reviews all around and audiences have liked it as well. TRDB.

PLANES

PLANES- 2013. Synopsis by Netflix. “This spinoff of the beloved Cars films follows Dusty the crop duster, who dreams of flying in a race around the world. But in order to qualify for the competition, he’ll have to overcome his fear of heights.”

8/15/13- Jane and I went to the movies today with our daughter, her husband and their 2 children. It was the kids first movie theater experience and they enjoyed it very much. Don’t pass out but I actually enjoyed the movie and SO DID THE KIDS!! TRDB. At the Theater.

THE LION KING (1994)

THE LION KING (1994)- Synopsis by Netflix. “The highest-grossing animated film of the 20th century follows a young lion cub named Simba (voiced by Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Matthew Broderick) who can’t wait to be king. But his uncle (Jeremy Irons) craves the title for himself and will stop at nothing — even killing his own brother — to get it.”

9/27/11- I just saw this movie with my wife, my son and 2 of my grandchildren and loved it. Interesting, great animation and we saw it in 3D which put a new twist on the film. TRDB. At the Theater.
