LOOPER- 2012. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination.”

Synopsis by Netflix. “Wishing to infiltrate a California cult, curiosity seekers Peter (Christopher Denham) and Lorna (Nicole Vicius) undergo an elaborate preparation process that leads from a desolate road to an unmarked location, but the mystery only deepens when their blindfolds are removed. In this absorbing psychological thriller, the line between voyeurism and belief blurs once the pretenders shake hands with sphinx-like cult leader Maggie (Brit Marling).”

1/1/13- Very mixed reviews and I almost turned it off at the midpoint but I stuck it out and actually liked it. Reviewers seemed to like Marling but I thought that she was the weakest link in the movie. TRDB. Netflix.

4:44 LAST DAY ON EARTH- 2012. Synopsis by Netflix. “After learning that the world will end the following day at 4:44 a.m., a New York City couple lives out their final hours with mixed emotions. They also try to say goodbye to loved ones, which results in some eleventh-hour issues.”

8/23/12- After a group of better movies with a similar theme this was an incredibly boring exercise and I turned it off. TRDB. Netflix.

WOMB- 2009. Synopsis by Netflix. “Recently widowed Rebecca (Eva Green) attempts to surmount her unbearable heartache by having her deceased husband cloned. This morally controversial decision, however, ushers the unyielding woman down a difficult path she never expected. Hungarian filmmaker Benedek Fliegauf writes and directs this futuristic, intensely emotional love story that also stars Matt Smith, Lesley Manville and Peter Wight.” Surprisingly good early reviews for this sci-fi movie. RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES- 2011. 8/14/11-Despite not liking James Franco and not liking sci-fi I thoroughly enjoyed this movie that my friends Don and Sue dragged me to. Great special effects, good story and boy, you have to love those apes. TRDB. At the Theater.
