THE UNKNOWN GIRL- 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “After young physician Jenny closes her office for the day, she refuses to see an unfamiliar woman who’s looking for treatment. Upon learning that the woman died soon thereafter, Jenny becomes obsessed with finding out the stranger’s identity.”

9/7/17- OK reviews from the critics and weak ones from audiences. Sounds interesting to me and the NY Times liked it very much. TRDB.

9/11/17- Certainly not a great movie, this new film did hold my interest throughout. The lead actress was very good. TRDB. Comcast On-Demand.

GET OUT- 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Already uneasy about meeting his girlfriend’s parents for the first time, Chris’s anxiety doesn’t diminish once he gets to their posh suburb and learns that young African-American men like himself have been vanishing from the spot.”

5/29/17- Very well done drama/horror movie. Generally this type is not for me- but this one did hold my interest. TRDB. Comcast On-Demand

PATERSON

PATERSON- 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Unspooling over the course of a week, this nuanced indie drama chronicles the ebb and flow in the unassuming lives of Paterson, a New Jersey bus driver and part-time poet, and his flighty but supportive wife, Laura.”

1/25/17- Excellent reviews by the critics and fairly good ones from audiences. TRDB.

5/3/17- Very different but I did like it. Stick with it for at least 20 minutes. TRDB. Comcast On-Demand.

12/23/16- Excellent reviews. TRDB.

4/19/17-Very different than anything you’ve seen before this movie was well reviewed and deservedly so. I found it interesting and touching as well. TRDB. HotWire on demand.

IN A VALLEY OF VIOLENCE- 2016. Synopsis by Netflix. “Fleeing his past for a better future in Mexico, Paul and his dog stop along the way in Denton, an all-but abandoned mining outpost now run by hooligans. When Paul clashes with the town marshal’s blowhard son, things take a vengeful turn.”

10/21/16- Overall this movie has positive reviews but there are a whole load of negative ones as well. TRDB.

11/2/16- A comedic old time Western with a very good Ethan Hawke and equally good John Travolta. Accept it for what it is and enjoy!! TRDB. Comcast On-Demand.

DANCER

DANCER- 2016. Synopsis by Netflix. “Though blessed with ballet skills that brought him global fame, Sergei Polunin had misgivings about the meaning and worth of stardom. At the age of 25, he abandoned the dance world — a decision he candidly reflects on in this immersive documentary.”

9/16/16- Fair to good reviews from the critics and much better ones from audiences. I’ll see it. TRDB.

10/4/16- I enjoyed this movie very much. There was just enough dance in this documentary and I was able to understand what it meant for him to be a prodigy and also for him to leave it all behind. TRDB. Comcast On-Demand.

ZERO DAYS

ZERO DAYS- 2016. Synopsis by Netflix. “When the United States and Israel developed malware to sabotage a key part of Iran’s nuclear program, the worm was supposed to vanish after doing its job. Though the first phase was a success, the second wasn’t, as detailed in this chilling documentary.”

7/8/16- Fairly good reviews. TRDB.

8/7/16- A scary documentary about cyber warfare and its possible effects on our society. Definitely worth seeing. TRDB. Comcast On-Demand.

WEINER- 2016. Synopsis by Netflix. “After resigning from Congress amid a sexting scandal, Anthony Weiner sets out to make a comeback in a 2013 campaign for mayor of New York City. Yet, as chronicled in this incisive documentary, his ambitions get derailed when a new scandal erupts.”

5/20/16- Very good reviews for this documentary. TRDB.

5/30/16- Painful to watch but it was a very good study of self-destruction that seems to affect lots of public figures. Worth seeing. TRDB. Comcast On-Demand.
