10/7/13- Poetic and beautiful but without form and, as far as I’m concerned, ambiguous substance as well. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

INTO THE WHITE

INTO THE WHITE- 2012. Synopsis by Netflix. “In the early days of World War II, two military airplanes — one British and one German — are shot down over Norway. Now, the crews of both aircraft are forced to work together in a desperate attempt to survive the harsh winter conditions.”

3/30/13- Mixed reviews but none said that it was very good. TRDB.

7/24/13- I did not like this movie and I turned it off quickly. TRDB.

THE ANGELS’ SHARE- 2012. Synopsis by Netflix. “After avoiding jail, Robbie vows to turn his life around for his newborn son. He has a talent for discerning fine whiskeys, and he and his community service cohorts hatch a plan to lift a few expensive bottles to buy themselves a better future.”

4/22/13- A thoroughly enjoyable movie from Scotland. Luckily that there were sub-titles. TRDB.

42- 2013. Synopsis by Netflix. “This biopic focuses on the relationship between baseball icon Jackie Robinson and Brooklyn Dodgers general manager Branch Rickey, who signed Robinson and in 1947 made him the first black Major League Baseball player of the modern era.”

3/30/13- No reviews as yet but I can’t wait to see this movie. TRDB.

4/12/13- Today’s NY Times gave this movie an OK review basically saying that the movie was good but that it fell into the “hero worship” category. TRDB.

4/19/13- Very disappointed! I really wanted to like this movie but, as written by one critic, it was a superficial historical tribute with very little about the man himself. TRDB. At the Theater.

MENTAL

MENTAL- 2012. Synopsis by Netflix. “After his wife has a breakdown, a smarmy politician hires Shaz, a “nanny” he finds on the side of the road, to care for his daughters. But the freewheeling Shaz has her hands full with the girls, each of whom claims her own brand of mental illness.”

BLANCANIEVES

BLANCANIEVES- 2012. Synopsis by Netflix. “Shot in black and white and without dialogue, this unusual take on “Snow White” follows the young daughter of a matador who finds fame after escaping the clutches of her evil stepmother to join a band of bullfighting dwarves.”

3/29/13- Very good reviews including the review in today’s NY Times. TRDB.

9/9/13- I saw this silent film at the Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival a few days ago and I thought it was great. TRDB.

WRONG

WRONG- 2012. Synopsis by Netflix. “When his beloved dog, Paul, goes missing, Dolph Springer scours the town for him. In the process, he affects the lives of an offbeat pet detective, a jogging addict, a sexy pizza delivery girl and others he meets on his mission.”

3/29/13- A poor review in today’s NY Times and mixed reviews from other critics. TRDB.

7/9/16- Creative but absurd and I’m sorry I watched the whole thing. TRDB. Netflix.
