DECODING ANNIE PARKER- 2013. Synopsis by Netflix. “In this fact-based drama about the origins of disease, breast-cancer patient Annie Parker works with tireless researcher Mary-Claire King as she tries to identify cancer’s genetic components — despite a lack of funding and skeptical colleagues.”

5/2/14- Mixed reviews for this film. The NY Times liked it. TRDB.

10/6/14- An interesting topic but it was hampered by the trivial screenplay that tried to be funny but wasn’t. TRDB. Netflix.

BENEATH THE HARVEST SKY- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Teenage best friends Dominic and Casper are desperate to leave their small northern Maine hometown for a better life in Boston. But the paths they take to finance their travels are drastically different.”

BELLE- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “This period drama based on fact traces the life of Dido Elizabeth Belle, a biracial girl born in 1761 to a British admiral father and an African mother. Raised by her great-uncle, Dido finds her place in society despite her mixed ethnicity.”

THE UNFINISHED SKY- 2007. Synopsis by Netflix. “Taciturn farmer John Woldring is living on his own in the Australian Outback when a terrified woman who speaks little English appears on his property. Upon learning that the woman is an Afghan refugee in dire straits, Woldring elects to shelter her.”

4/30/14- I liked the first 90% of this movie but found the last 10% hard to believe. Never-the-less it’s still worth viewing. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

MARVIN, SETH AND STANLEY

MARVIN, SETH AND STANLEY-2014. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “The usually quarreling Greenstein brothers Seth (Karpovsky) and Stanley (writer/director Stephen Gurewitz reluctantly agree to join their father, Marvin, for a weekend trip in rural Minnesota. Estranged from each other, the threesome of inept outdoorsmen rediscover repressed grudges as the weekend comically devolves into a series of daytime drinking episodes and botched outdoor pursuits . A serious comedy of deceit and stilted emotions.”

4/25/14- I’ve seen 3 reviews– 2 were weak and the positive one was iffy. TRDB.
