Facing losses that neither can accept — her, a stillborn baby, and him, his independence — Rose and Edmond gradually bond. Eric Caravaca provides strong support as Rose’s worried spouse.”

LILTING

LILTING- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “In the wake of her son’s untimely death, a grieving mother reaches out to her son’s roommate in an attempt to understand more about who he was. But she’s surprised to learn the roommates were actually lovers.”

9/26/14- Very good reviews from critics and audiences as well. The NY Times did not like it. TRDB.

2/21/15- I enjoyed this movie about 2 polar opposite type people grieving about the loss of a young man and trying to connect with each other. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

9/26/14- Mediocre critical review. Audiences have been a bit more positive. TRDB.

DAYS AND NIGHTS

DAYS AND NIGHTS- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Chekhov’s classic The Seagull comes to 1980s New England in this story of an aging actress’s fateful choice to visit her son and ailing brother. Over the course of a Memorial Day weekend, her presence impacts every member of the household.”

BJORK: BIOPHILIA LIVE- 2014. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Biophilia live’ is a concert film by Nick fenton and Peter strickland that captures the human element of Björk’s multi-disciplinary multimedia project: Biophilia. recorded live at Björk’s show at london’s alexandra palace in 2013, the film features Björk and her band performing every song on ‘Biophilia’ and more using a broad variety of instruments – some digital, some traditional and some completely unclassifiable.”

ASMODEXIA- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “As a sinister spirit known as the Evil One begins taking over the souls of Barcelona denizens, exorcist Eloy de Palma and his granddaughter try valiantly to cure the growing number of afflicted. Meanwhile, a secret cult seeks to thwart their efforts.”

9/26/14- This movie actually got a few good reviews including the NY Times. I’ll skip it. TRDB.

GONE GIRL

GONE GIRL- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Based on Gillian Flynn’s novel of the same name, this unsettling thriller follows the mercurial Nick Dunne, who finds himself dogged by police and caught in a media maelstrom after he becomes the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance.”

9/26/14- Very good reviews. The NY Times did not like it. TRDB.

10/9/14- Very well done mystery with interesting characters. A bit too long but I liked it. TRDB.

BEFORE SNOWFALL

BEFORE SNOWFALL- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “When his sister flees her arranged marriage, young Siyar is expected to seek her out and bring her back to restore his family’s honor. Siyar’s pursuit takes him from Kurdistan to Istanbul — where he first begins to doubt his mission.”

9/23/14- A different type of “road trip” that shows how Siyar’s local community, working together with members abroad, tries to help him complete his mission. A great first few minutes, a little slow in the middle with a good last half hour. Well worth seeing. TRDB. At the Arab Film Festival at Jacob Burns Film Center.
