MAUDIE- 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “This affecting biopic charts the story of Maud Lewis, who rises above the juvenile rheumatoid arthritis that made her a social outcast and finds a passion for painting, becoming a beloved Canadian folk artist in the process.”

6/16/17- Good to excellent reviews. TRDB.

8/2/17- A real love story between 2 characters who provided the strength to each other to overcome their handicaps. TRDB. At the Theater.

THE BOOK OF HENRY- 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Susan Carpenter’s son Henry has a genius IQ — and a crush on next-door neighbor Christina Sickelman, who’s being abused by her father. After discovering that Henry has devised a scheme to rescue Christina, Susan decides to help carry out the plan.”

6/15/17- Weak reviews in general. A few critics liked it but most really disliked it. TRDB.

ASCENT

ASCENT- 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Blending fact and fiction, director Fiona Tan uses more than 4,000 still images of Japan’s iconic Mount Fuji to depict the epistolary account of a man’s ascent of the peak, which triggers pensive recollections in his partner after his death.”

MOSCOW NEVER SLEEPS- 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Moscow’s dark magnetism forms the backdrop for this multithreaded tale about five people — a businessman, a songbird, an actor, a young girl and a mom — trying to navigate their way through a series of challenging obstacles.”

6/9/17- Fairly good reviews with the exception of the NY Times review. Sounds good to me. TRDB.

6/9/17- Fairly good reviews from the critics and excellent ones from audiences. TRDB.

6/16/17- I liked this movie very much. Interesting and foreboding and definitely recommended. TRDB. At the Theater.
