PIANOMANIA- 2009. Synopsis by Netflix. “This engaging documentary profiles Stefan Knüpfer, the master tuner for Steinway & Sons, who is tasked with the often-demanding job of pairing world-famous pianists with the right instrument and supervising all aspects of each piano’s performance.”

11/4/11- Fairly good review for the documentary in today’s NY Times. TRDB.

2/27/12- Honestly, this was one of the more boring movies I’ve seen in a long time and I was sorely disappointed. I lasted 30 minutes. TRDB. Netflix.

GAINSBOURG: A HEROIC LIFE- 2010. Synopsis by Netflix. “Eric Elmosnino stars as Serge Gainsbourg in this foreign-language biopic about the life and career of the famed French singer-songwriter who, as a young Jew, survived the Nazi occupation of Paris and went on to create controversial music. Laetitia Casta and Lucy Gordon co-star.” Fairly good reviews. TRDB.

4/30/12- I could not get into this movie no matter how hard I tried. And I did try. TRDB. Netflix.

ELEVATE- 2011. Synopsis by Netflix. “Four outsized West African Muslim teens find that everything — even basketball — is different in America when they accept scholarships to play hoops at two U.S. prep schools in this engaging documentary that charts their remarkable journeys.”

10/21/11- Good review in today’s NY Times. TRDB.

4/14/15- A well made documentary about these 4 men and their “journey” to America. It appeared that each had a smooth transition from the slums of Dakar, Senegal to the U.S., something I find hard to believe. TRDB.

7/3/12- 88% of viewers liked this movie but I’m in the 12% who found this statistic filled documentary boring. TRDB. Netflix.

IN TIME- 2011. Synopsis by Netflix. “In a near future where aging stops at 25, time is the new currency and the wealthy can live forever. When Will Salas inherits decades of life from a wealthy murdered man, he’s pegged as the suspect by the corrupt Time Keepers, who enforce the law.”

10/28/11- A so-so review in today’s NY Times. TRDB.

3/11/12- An interesting premise is about all I can say for this ridiculous movie. I lasted 25 min. hoping it would get better. It didn’t. TRDB. Netflix.

FIREFLIES IN THE GARDEN- 2008. Emily Watson, Hayden Panettiere, Ioan Gruffudd and Carrie-Anne Moss also star in this semiautobiographical tale of rage and redemption from writer-director Dennis Lee.”

2/13/12- Perhaps I’m a sucker for movies with intense family issues but I enjoyed this fairly well panned drama. TRDB. Netflix.

THE SKIN I LIVE IN- 2011. Synopsis by Netflix. “Robert Ledgard, a brilliant plastic surgeon, seeks to overcome the grief of his late wife’s disfigurement in a fiery car crash by inventing skin that is impervious to injury, but his experiments on a living woman hasten his descent into madness.”

10/14/11- By Almodovar, this film got a weird but great review in today’s NY Times. TRDB.

3/21/12- I think that only Almodovar could pull this off. Very unusual to say the least but I really enjoyed it. TRDB. Netflix.

THE GREEN

THE GREEN- 2011. Synopsis by Netflix. “Michael, an idealistic drama teacher, moves to Connecticut with his partner, Daniel, but their idyllic life is shattered when a troubled high school student accuses Michael of molestation and everyone, including Daniel, assumes that he’s guilty.” A few reviews and they are all very good. TRDB.

1/13/12- Incredibly stupid screenplay and I turned it off. TRDB. Netflix.
