12/28/12- A mixed review in today’s NY Times but, overall, the reviewer did like it. TRDB.

6/7/13- Interesting enough film about a current topic. I liked Matt Damon in the role but found it hard to believe the ending. TRDB.

WEST OF MEMPHIS

WEST OF MEMPHIS- 2012. Synopsis by Netflix. “After the 1994 conviction of three troubled teens for the murders of three younger boys, questions began to arise about the prosecution of the case, with numerous legal experts and celebrities demanding that previously ignored evidence be examined.”

Excellent reviews. TRDB.

12/6/13- An extremely well done documentary that held my interest despite its two and a half hour length. It should be required viewing for all lawyers. TRDB.

DJANGO UNCHAINED

DJANGO UNCHAINED- 2012. Synopsis by Netflix. “Accompanied by a German bounty hunter, a freed slave named Django travels across America to free his wife from a sadistic plantation owner. Quentin Tarantino directs this modern-day spaghetti Western.”

4/23/13- A way over the top Western by the master of violence. It took me a while to get used to this movie but in the end I thought it was OK. TRDB.

THE GIRL- 2012. Synopsis by Netflix. “While transporting illegal immigrants across the Texas border, a cash-strapped single mother finds herself caring for a young Mexican girl. Along the way, she’s forced to reexamine her life with a critical eye.”

12/14/12- Fair reviews in today’s NY Times and by other professional critics as well. Audiences have not liked this film. TRDB.

12/6/13- Weak reviews but I found it interesting and I got into the story. TRDB.

ONLY THE YOUNG- 2012. Synopsis by Netflix. “In this poetic documentary, teens Garrison and Kevin use their love of skateboarding and devotion to Christianity to cope with their sometimes-troubled friendship with their female pal Skye and the severe economic slump of their California community.”

12/7/12- A weak review in today’s NY Times. TRDB.

8/17/15- A mildly entertaining documentary about the coming of age of a few high school students in a rural community with a touch of religion thrown in. TRDB. Netflix.

OFF WHITE LIES

OFF WHITE LIES- 2012. Synopsis by Netflix. “Thirteen-year-old Libi is sent to Israel to join her father, Shaul, a wiz at white lies. But it doesn’t take long for her to chafe at his lifestyle. Soon, she begins to unravel the web of lies her father has constructed around him.”

12/7/12- A very good review in today’s NY Times. TRDB.

8/14/13- This Israeli movie was very well acted with an interesting premise and I enjoyed it very much. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

THE CENTRAL PARK FIVE- 2012. Synopsis by Netflix. “This piercing documentary examines the case of five teenagers, all African-American or Latino, who were convicted of the brutal rape of a white woman in Central Park in 1989. Years later, the confession of the real rapist set the jailed men free.”

4/29/13- A well researched and interesting documentary about this famous case with discussion of the societal ramifications involved. TRDB. Netflix.

IN OUR NATURE- 2012. Synopsis by Netflix. “Seth and Andie had the perfect weekend getaway planned, until a booking error put Seth’s estranged father and his girlfriend in the same condo. The four agree to make the best of the unexpected arrangement, with unexpected consequences for all.”

3/27/13- I enjoyed the movie and felt it was a good depiction of a dysfunctional family. TRDB.
