6/27/14- A very good review in today’s NY Times and OK reviews by other critics. Some really bad ones too. Audiences have liked it more. TRDB.

11/17/14- I was looking forward to seeing this movie but I found it incredibly boring. TRDB. Netflix.

VIOLETTE

VIOLETTE- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Impoverished writer Violette Leduc finds a mentor in best-selling author Simone de Beauvoir, who champions her work and encourages her art. But while the two become lifelong friends, Violette yearns for something more.”

6/13/14- Fairly good reviews from critics but poor ones from audiences. TRDB.

11/25/14- The movie held my interest from time to time only. A bit of history made it OK. I love Emmanuelle Devos and for that reason alone I would recommend it. TRDB.

TEST- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “As the newest member of an exciting contemporary dance company in San Francisco, young Frankie navigates gay life in the big city as he grapples with a homophobic choreographer and develops an intense relationship with a fellow dancer.”

6/13/14- Very good reviews from critics and audiences. TRDB.

10/14/20- I liked it very much. Great modern dance scenes. TRDB.

THE FAULT IN OUR STARS- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Teenager Hazel, who has pushed people away since her cancer diagnosis, reluctantly joins a support group, where she bonds with a boy named Gus. Together, they face the challenge of building a relationship under the shadow of terminal illness.”

6/6/14- Very good reviews even though a few reviewers called it schmaltzy. TRDB.

10/19/14- Somewhat sappy and of course sad at times but basically the film gets it right. I enjoyed it. TRDB. Netflix.

5/30/14- Good reviews from audiences and mixed reviews from the critics. TRDB.

10/20/14- Suspend reality and you may be able to enjoy this comedy. If it’s “take it or leave it”– leave it. TRDB.

LILA, LILA- 2014. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Popular German actor Daniel Brühl plays David Kern, a socially awkward waiter who works a dead end job in a chic cafe. One day he stumbles upon the biggest break of his life, an unpublished manuscript which he finds in a jammed nightstand drawer.”

5/23/14- Weak reviews. TRDB.

12/21/14- I enjoyed the movie. It certainly was not a great tale but very good acting made the movie. I especially liked the final book reading at the end. TRDB. Netflix.

5/16/14- Fairly good reviews for this comedy. TRDB.

7/27/14- A delightful family drama if a little puffy. One really funny scene between the two brothers. TRDB. Netflix.

PALO ALTO

PALO ALTO- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Based on a collection of short stories by James Franco (who also stars), this perceptive drama follows a group of disaffected teens in a wealthy California town who have money to burn but little parental supervision — and even less direction.”

5/9/14- Very good reviews. The NY Times liked it also. TRDB.

9/30/14- Another slice of life movie about teenage ennui with minimal supervision- a bad combination- but well done and I did like it. TRDB.
