8/22/14- Good reviews in general and the NY Times liked it as well. TRDB.

6/8/15- A one of a kind documentary about a company that has tried to improve the reputation of the industry by the actions of the actors it employs and by the various precautions used to insure the safety of the actors, both male and female. I couldn’t help looking for the elephant in the room. TRDB. Netflix.

TRACKS- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Mia Wasikowska is affecting as adventurer Robyn Davidson, who crossed the Australian desert alone — and on foot — in 1977. Drawn from Davidson’s memoir, this drama depicts her arduous journey and explores her reasons for undertaking it.”

8/18/14- Very good reviews. TRDB.

4/23/15- It’s not easy to make a drama about walking across the desert alone interesting but this drama does just that. Definitely recommended. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

LAST DAYS IN VIETNAM- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “This documentary recounts the Vietnam War’s final days, when unexpected roadblocks threatened the evacuation of America’s South Vietnamese allies. Witnesses and rare footage reveal the heroism and sacrifice that played out amid the chaos.”

9/5/14- Excellent reviews including the one in today’s NY Times. TRDB.

5/1/15- An exhaustive description of what actually happened during those last few days before the evacuation of our embassy in Saigon. Very well done and an important piece of work. TRDB.

ABUSE OF WEAKNESS

ABUSE OF WEAKNESS- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “In this semi-autobiographical tale from helmer Catherine Breillat, Isabelle Huppert plays a director who returns to her craft after suffering a debilitating stroke. Regrettably, the con man she casts in her film comes to see her as his biggest mark.”

8/15/14- Very good reviews. TRDB.

12/5/14– I just could not get into this film and I turned it off. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

FRANK

FRANK- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “An aspiring musician joins a band of eccentrics led by an enigmatic singer — who wears a fake head — and his unstable girlfriend. Creative tension mounts as the group retreats to the woods to cut an album.”

8/15/14- Excellent reviews all around. TRDB.

9/30/14- Definitely one of the weirdest films I have seen in a long time. By the way, I hated it and turned it off. TRDB.

FORT McCOY

FORT McCoy- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Unable to serve in World War II because of a heart condition, a barber moves his family adjacent to a Wisconsin army base and prisoner-of-war camp to provide his services. But even in rural America — far from the frontline — the war finds victims.”

8/7/14-Weak reviews but this movie did sound interesting. Even those who liked it qualified their reviews. TRDB.

11/17/14- A fairly weak, Hollywood type movie but it was a slice of life of the families living on POW bases in the United States so it did hold my interest. TRDB. Netflix.

8/1/14– Fairly good critical reviews but audiences have been luke warm. The NY Times liked it. TRDB.

2/19/15- One of the most boring movies I’ve seen in a long time. I turned it off quickly. TRDB.

A FIVE STAR LIFE- 2014. 7/18/14- Professional reviews and audience reaction are mixed. TRDB.

11/8/14- A delightful light drama, this movie will not win any awards but I liked it very much. TRDB.

FANNY

FANNY- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “When her true love sails away, a pregnant young woman who sells seashells marries a much older man to avoid scandal. But when the father of her child returns several months later, a complicated love triangle results.”

7/18/14- Reviews have been luke warm- the NY Times did not like it. TRDB.

6/12/15- Fair reviews at best but I enjoyed the movie. I like most of Daniel Auteuil’s work, this time as actor and director. TRDB.
