4/16/15- An irritating, pretentious pile of nothing as far as I’m concerned. TRDB. Netflix.

NUIT #1

NUIT #1- 2012. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Clara and Nikolaï meet at a rave. They return to Nikolaï’s apartment and make love. Afterwards, instead of parting, the two lovers divulge their deepest secrets to one another.”

10/29/14- This movie is clearly driven by the performance of the 2 characters as they are so honest with each other and themselves that you can actually feel something for them. I think it’s worth a try. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

DIFRET

DIFRET- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “After shooting a man who tried to force her into marriage, a 14-year-old Ethiopian girl is jailed and charged with murder. Now, the only thing standing between her and the death penalty is a zealous young lawyer determined to save her client’s life.”.

10/20/15- Great reviews. TRDB.

7/10/16- A very good and realistic docudrama about a young girl and her attempt, with the help of a dedicated lawyer, to free herself from prosecution by traditional tribal laws. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

NIGHTCRAWLER

NIGHTCRAWLER- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Eager for any work that will make ends meet, Lou Bloom joins the flock of camera crews prowling the nighttime streets of Los Angeles in search of scandal and crime. But before long, Lou finds himself caught in the tabloid limelight.”

10/31/14- Very good reviews with some notable exceptions including the NY Times and NY Magazine. TRDB.

5/12/15- I enjoyed this movie very much. Jake Gyllenhaal was great and totally believable as a sociopath and more. TRDB.

WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “When 17-year-old Kat Conners’s mom, Eve, vanishes, the teen relishes her newfound freedom — until the reality of her loss sets in. While on break from college, Kat returns home and learns the strange facts behind Eve’s disappearance.”

10/24/14- Reviews are evenly divided for this movie but it sounds interesting to me and I’ll try to see it. TRDB.

1/28/15- Half of the movie is predictable and the other half is contrived but, believe it or not, the movie is not without merit. That’s the best I can do. TRDB. Netflix.

LAGGIES- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “While her friends are starting families and advancing their careers, 28-year-old Megan clings to youthful irresponsibility. After agreeing to attend a professional-development retreat, she instead spends the time with a teenager she’s befriended.”

10/24/14- Mixed reviews, slightly more positive than negative. TRDB.

3/13/15- A drama about a woman who is lost between stages of her life. I’d say it’s marginal and worth seeing just for Keira Knightley’s performance. Netflix.

THE HEART MACHINE- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Absence makes the heart grow fonder for Cody and Virginia, who are pursuing a relationship online while living on different continents. Soon, however, New Yorker Cody begins to suspect that Virginia may be living much closer than she’s letting on.”

10/24/14- Excellent reviews from critics. Audiences have been luke warm. TRDB.

11/30/15- A very good mystery that calls into question the limits to the type of relationship that you can have on the Internet alone. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

9/2/15- A great documentary about a serious subject, handled with love. Plenty of music as well. TRDB. Netflix.

LISTEN UP PHILIP

LISTEN UP PHILIP- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “A self-absorbed New York writer juggles the pressures of promoting his second book, watching his relationship deteriorate and living in an unforgiving city. His literary hero offers him an escape in the form of a summer home.”

10/17/14- Widely divergent reviews. Some liked it a lot and some hated it. Probably worth a try. TRDB.

3/26/15- I’m glad I saw it but I’m not sure if I liked it or not– Professional critics seemed to feel the same way. TRDB.
