1/15/17- I liked this movie very much and I can now see why it won so many Golden Globe awards. It is a beautiful love story and a very good depiction of what it’s like trying to break into the arts community. TRDB. At the Theater.

ALLIED- 2016. Synopsis by Netflix. “During a perilous World War II mission in Casablanca, French-Canadian operative Max Vatan falls in love with and weds French spy Marianne Beausejour. After learning that Marianne may be a Nazi double agent, Max launches an investigation of his wife.”
12/5/16- This movie has garnered mixed reviews but I liked it– certainly not great but well worth seeing. TRDB. At the Theater.

DISTURBING THE PEACE- 2016. Synopsis by Netflix. “This inspiring documentary chronicles the true story of veteran Palestinian fighters who join together with former Israeli soldiers to establish Combatants for Peace, a group committed to practicing nonviolent activism.”

CERTAIN WOMEN- 2016. Synopsis by Netflix. “In this quiet drama, three Montana women try to find their way when life throws them curveballs. As lawyer Laura deals with a hostage crisis, Gina clashes with an elderly neighbor, and ranch hand Jamie becomes smitten with an adult education teacher.”

DENIAL- 2016. Synopsis by Netflix. “In the 1990s, well-known Holocaust denier David Irving sued historian Deborah Lipstadt — issuing a complaint under British law requiring the American academic to prove that the greatest atrocity of World War II actually took place. ”
9/30/16- Decent reviews from critics and audiences. The NY Times did not like it. TRDB.
10/22/16- While I liked the movie I felt that it was too Hollywoodish on many occasions and lacked the passion that I would have expected. TRDB.

SULLY- 2016. Synopsis by Netflix. “Viewers around the world were astonished in 2009 when airline pilot Chesley Sullenberger safely landed an Airbus 320 on the Hudson River after both engines were disabled. This fact-based drama illuminates Sullenberger’s life and heroic achievement.”
9/7/16- Mostly very good reviews for the movie and for Tom Hanks who plays Sully. A few negatives thrown in as well. TRDB.
9/10/16- I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and I was sweating as it played out despite knowing what was going to happen. There have been some interesting discussions in the press about artistic license and accuracy related to this movie. Tom Hanks was great! TRDB. At the Theater.
