THE ONE I LOVE- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Confronted with the potential end of their marriage, Ethan and Sophie take off for a weekend together, hoping to negotiate their future. When they reach their idyllic destination, however, the couple strolls into a bizarre new brand of trouble.”

8/15/14- A very clever story that works for the most part. Also a bit tedious at times trying to figure out who is who but overall I liked it. TRDB. Comcast On-Demand.

THE DOG- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “This up-close documentary surveys the life of John Wojtowicz, whose botched robbery of a Brooklyn bank in 1972 inspired the film Dog Day Afternoon. After serving his time, Wojtowicz became an active figure in New York’s gay liberation movement.’
7/28/14– Good early reviews although one of the positive critics said that it was entertaining but wondered why anyone would care if it was made or not. TRDB.

A MOST WANTED MAN- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “A half-Russian, half-Chechen man, brutalized by torture, arrives in Hamburg, where he seeks a British banker’s help in recovering his father’s estate. But the man may not be all he seems to be in this riveting adaptation of John le Carré’s novel.”
7/8/14- Very good reviews. TRDB.
8/16/14- I found this movie confusing at first. The acting was great and propelled the movie which was more ordinary. This was Philip Seymour Hoffman’s last completed film before his untimely death. TRDB.

BEYOND THE EDGE- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Edmund Hillary’s 1953 ascent of Mt. Everest was an event that amazed the world and led to a new age of mountaineering and ambitious exploration. Hilary’s triumphant saga is retold using both modern footage, and recordings and photos from the time.”
7/4/14- Mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. The NY Times liked it very much. TRDB.
12/11/14- A somewhat interesting documentary which was mostly reenacted. Some of the scenes seemed about as tedious as parts of the slow climb. The views were magnificent. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

THEY CAME TOGETHER- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “In this semi-spoof of romantic comedies, candy company exec Joel falls for Molly, who owns a corner candy store he’s tasked with closing. Their road to romance is filled with oddball obstacles, not the least of which is Molly’s utter hatred for Joel.”

7/6/14- A well done fun movie with great music and very likable characters. I liked it very much. TRDB.

PALO ALTO- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Based on a collection of short stories by James Franco (who also stars), this perceptive drama follows a group of disaffected teens in a wealthy California town who have money to burn but little parental supervision — and even less direction.”

9/30/14- Another slice of life movie about teenage ennui with minimal supervision- a bad combination- but well done and I did like it. TRDB.
