THE ROMANTICS- 2010. Premise by Netflix. “Mischief and sexual escapades ensue when a group of college friends reunite for the wedding of group members Lila (Anna Paquin) and Tom (Josh Duhamel) — and an old rivalry resurges between Lila and her maid of honor, Laura (Katie Holmes), who still holds a torch for the groom. Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood, Adam Brody and Jeremy Strong also star in this indie romantic comedy based on writer-director Galt Niederhoffer‘s novel.” Good early reviews but poor review in NY Times 9/10/10.
2/11- I agree with the Times– trite screenplay and unlikable characters. TRDB. Netflix.

SALT- 2010. Premise by Netflix. “After she’s accused of being a Russian sleeper spy, rogue CIA agent Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie) goes on the run, using every tactic, accent and disguise she knows to elude her pursuers, clear her name and protect her husband. Her supervisor, Winter (Liev Schreiber), buys her story, while counterintelligence officer Peabody (Chiwetel Ejiofor) decidedly does not and will do anything to stop her in this fast-paced, intrigue-filled spy adventure.” More positive reviews than negative but even the good ones weren’t very good. I’ll wait for the DVD. TRDB.

DADDY LONGLEGS- Premise by Netflix. “Frazzled divorced dad Lenny (Ronald Bronstein) gets just two weeks each year to spend time with his sons Sage and Frey (Sage and Frey Ranaldo), so he’s determined to make those 14 days memorable. But the 34-year-old New Yorker isn’t quite what you’d call a responsible adult. Dodging his responsibilities left and right, Lenny grapples with the age-old dilemma of whether to act like a father or a friend to his kids.”
5/10- Frazzled isn’t all this guy was in a tale of a divorced NY family. Some merit to the movie but you can do without it. TRDB.

FALLING AWAKE- Premise by Netflix. “No matter how badly you want to, it’s hard to leave the neighborhood — especially when that neighborhood is the Bronx. This is the lesson aspiring musician Jay (Andrew Cisneros) learns when professional and romantic dreams pull him into the wider world. Despite his ambitions, loyalty, obligation and the cycles of violence and trauma that have long plagued his Bronx home continue to draw him back. Jenna Dewan and Nestor Serrano also star.” Very good early reviews.

THE SUN- Premise by Netflix. “From renowned director Aleksandr Sokurov comes a piercing historical drama about Japan’s emperor Hirohito at the end of World War II. Faced with his country’s defeat and the renunciation of his divine status, Hirohito must establish his own identity. Sokurov’s exquisite cinematography accentuates this examination of diplomacy and personal responsibility as Hirohito agrees to meet with American Gen. MacArthur in an attempt to move Japan forward.” Very good review from the NY Times.
