OUR TIME WILL COME- 2017. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. TRDB. “1941. Hong Kong is under Japanese occupation. The anti-Japanese Dongjiang guerilla unit is tasked with rescuing cultural figures and extracting them from the besieged city. Primary school teacher, Fang Lan (Zhou Xun) and her mother are trying to live out this difficult period in a small run-down flat in Wanchai. After the schools are shut down, Lan unwittingly finds herself embroiled in the guerillas’ mission to save novelist Mao Dun.”

THE LITTLE HOURS- 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “In this medieval romp, convent life is far from pure — or even pure of heart — for Sisters Alessandra, Fernanda and Ginevra, who drive the nunnery’s laborer away with their taunts and drive his replacement crazy with their attempts at seduction.”

6/30/17- Fairly good reviews in general with a few negative ones in there as well. Sounds interesting and I’ll see it if I can. TRDB.

ASCENT- 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “Blending fact and fiction, director Fiona Tan uses more than 4,000 still images of Japan’s iconic Mount Fuji to depict the epistolary account of a man’s ascent of the peak, which triggers pensive recollections in his partner after his death.”

PAST LIFE

PAST LIFE- 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “With a keen sense of characterization, this moving drama follows two Israeli sisters — one an aspiring composer, the other a journalist — who dredge up dark family secrets when they attempt to learn the truth about their Holocaust-survivor father.”

6/2/17- Very good reviews by the critics and fair ones from audiences. I plan to see it. TRDB.

11/13/17- I thought this movie was excellent. TRDB. Amazon Prime.

JOSHUA: TEENAGER VS. SUPERPOWER- 2017. Synopsis by Netflix. “In 2014, mass demonstrations choked the streets of Hong Kong as citizens protested the Chinese government’s refusal to grant the region autonomy. This documentary focuses on teen dissident Joshua Wong, who rallied thousands to take to the streets.”
