TWO NIGHT STAND- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “After an ill-considered one-night stand, two young New Yorkers are obliged to extend their time together when a paralyzing snowstorm strikes the city, confining the pair to a small cramped apartment.”

9/26/14- Weak reviews but it did sound interesting. TRDB.

1/19/15- Conventional in many ways but the acting and the frank dialogue kept me interested. TRDB.

GUINEVERE- 1999. Synopsis by Netflix. “On the verge of a breakdown at her sister’s wedding, a Harvard-bound teen finds the love she seeks in a photographer who’s as old as her parents.”

9/3/14- A fairly weak story that I and most critics liked anyway. Sarah Polley as the lead was very good. TRDB. Netflix Streaming.

FINDING FANNY

FINDING FANNY- 2014. Synopsis by Rotten Tomatoes. “Five Goans set off on a road trip in search of an old postman’s childhood love, Stefanie “Fanny” Fernandes, though nobody knows whether she’s alive or dead or just a figment of someone’s imagination.”

9/12/14- Just a few reviews and both professional critics and audiences have been mixed on this one. The NY Times did not like it.  TRDB.

THE FAULT IN OUR STARS- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Teenager Hazel, who has pushed people away since her cancer diagnosis, reluctantly joins a support group, where she bonds with a boy named Gus. Together, they face the challenge of building a relationship under the shadow of terminal illness.”

6/6/14- Very good reviews even though a few reviewers called it schmaltzy. TRDB.

10/19/14- Somewhat sappy and of course sad at times but basically the film gets it right. I enjoyed it. TRDB. Netflix.

OBVIOUS CHILD

OBVIOUS CHILD- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “After being fired from her job and dumped by her cheating boyfriend, a comedian bottoms out and has a drunken one-night stand with a nice guy who’s not her type. Weeks later, she finds out she’s pregnant.”

6/6/14- Very good reviews, including the review in today’s NY Times. TRDB.

6/23/14- I liked this movie very much– I’d call it a “slice of life” romantic comedy. TRDB.

HOME, JAMES- 2014. HATESHIP LOVESHIP- 2013. Synopsis by Netflix. “Hired to look after an elderly man and his teenage granddaughter, a dowdy caretaker finds herself drawn to the girl’s ne’er-do-well father, never realizing that the subversive teen has been sending her tender e-mails in her father’s name.”

4/11/14- Poor reviews in general but the NY Times liked it very much. TRDB.

8/24/14-  I enjoyed this movie very much. Great acting by the leading characters and a sweet tale even if it helps to suspend reality just a bit. TRDB. Netflix.

2/28/14-Very good reviews in general. I’ll see it. TRDB.

4/12/14- A sensitive movie about several lonely people. I enjoyed it very much. TRDB. At the Theater.
