FELIX & MEIRA- 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “After their lives intersect at a Montreal pizzeria, a stifled young Hasidic wife and an atheist grappling with his father’s demise embark on a tentative romance that must bridge their two disparate worlds.”

4/17/15- Fairly good reviews. TRDB.

5/2/15- I enjoyed this movie whose main characters, while on the surface seemed very different, actually had more in common than first noted. TRDB. At the Theater.

THE LAST FIVE YEARS- 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “Telling their story through song, novelist Jamie and his actress wife Cathy retrace the blossoming and decay of their five-year romance from opposite ends of the timeline and meeting in the middle — with Jamie’s marriage proposal.”

2/13/15- Fair reviews from critics and audiences but the timelines here sound very interesting. TRDB.

5/14/15- Very creative but I just couldn’t get into this movie and I ultimately turned it off. TRDB.

BOY MEETS GIRL

BOY MEETS GIRL- 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “Growing up in conservative Kentucky, Ricky has always regarded himself as a woman in a male’s body but isn’t able to make a connection with the right man. Then he meets the stunning Francesca, who compels Ricky to reevaluate what love means to him.”

2/6/15- Excellent reviews from critics and audiences alike. The NY Times did not like it and felt that the characters were too hackneyed to match the seriousness of the topic. TRDB.

5/6/15- A good movie that tackles a sensitive topic with finesse. TRDB. Netflix.

AMIRA & SAM- 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. “Still struggling to readjust to American culture, Iraq War veteran Sam visits his former translator and is mesmerized by the man’s attractive niece, Amira. But if Sam wants to capture her heart, he must first find a way to prevent her deportation.”

5/14/15- A likable love story with a silly ending. Still worth seeing. TRDB. Netflix.

SONG ONE

SONG ONE- 2015. Synopsis by Netflix. Fanny, desperate to reach her comatose brother Henry, gives a book of his song lyrics to James Forrester, Henry’s favorite singer, to set to music. As the project unfolds, it changes James’s and Fanny’s lives as neither could have expected.”

1/23/15- Weak reviews all around. A few really liked it. TRDB.

5/7/15- Panned by most of the critics, this movie starring Anne Hathaway and Mary Steenburgen was a bit weak and formulaic but was blessed with some very good music. I’ll give it a passing grade. TRDB. Netflix.

LIFE PARTNERS- 2014. Synopsis by Netflix. “Although Paige and Sasha aren’t on the same page sexually — one is straight, the other is gay — they’re deeply committed to each other. But when Paige begins dating a young dermatologist, Sasha fears losing her place her best friend’s life.”
